Show B. Y. i 7AUI-- - sports U. High School, Provo, Utah PLATTER CHATTER REGION THREE By ROBERT HALES The school of B. Y. High has long been waiting for the year when they could cheer a victorious football team. This is it. The boys have come through with the victories, and the students have come through with the cheers. This is the way that is characteristic of all the schools of the area. When the team is winning, the students are on the spot, behind the team and out to all the ball games as they should be When the chips are down, its hard to get the support and that is desired. This i$ true at our high school, maybe not 1. the degree that it has been in the past, or the degree that it 19 it is true. This is in a way a in other schools, but never-the-letwo-wa- y stretch with both sides pushing each other up. When the team wins the students turn out to the ball games; when the students come out, the team wins. While we are in the winning column, lets get into the spirit of things and rally our all behind the learn. The general run of sports enthusiasts come in three general group. First, the fans that will support a tedfm through thick and thin, rain and snow, win or lose. The second great group is made up of those who wouldn't be seen dead in a football game. Pleading, coaxing, torturing, blackmail, and betting can get them out. The largest by far of these three groups is the third one. The members of t, this gathering come if it looks like there is to an be extra good game, or if there is nothing else to do at the going time These are the ones who should be worked on, can be worked on, and who can be effected by rallies, talks, and persuasion. This is the group that can be made to come out to the game through thick and thin. They can be made into first class members of the first group. What is being done about this terrible dilemma you say? The solution to the problem is at hand. Two major groups are trying to lead the way to better and more successful boosting of the team. The first action came from the Sophomore class in their action of holding a Sophomore week. Here they are aiming at promoting school spirit and are doing something about it. Through class meetings, lunches, and an assembly they are spearheading a pep movement. They have proposed a pep club with members banding together to schedule busses for games, and the general promotion of school spirit. Are you going to get behind them, or are you going to be content to be one of those who are in that third group of I dont LEAGUE STANDING Hi ya, people Youre- lookin mighty fine! The second project that is being taken under way is the result of suggestions by students and mainly a suggestion by our school minded coach. Dave Crowton. In a recent meeting of the student council, the proposition was passed that there be set up a definite pep committee to plan rallies and pep programs to build up a outing. The members of the committee were named as Ken Collard, Athletic manager; Pat Creer, Pat Johnson, Maxine Claudin, and Joleen Perri, Cheer Leaders; Dick White, Sohomore Class president, and Coach Dave Crowton. These people are going to head out the program of active support in all our sports functions. Also in connection with this one of the cheer leaders was invited to be in attendance to student council to promote and aid the council in seeing the full facts of the schools pep plans. The organizations are set up, the time is ripe, lets act and give support to these groups working arm in arm. The team is winning is the cheering section? well-plann- ed Coach Owen (Jockey) Dixons fighting Wildcats came from behind in last Fridays game to take the Devils with a 3 score. After a very slow start the Yld Cats came into the second half with fire in their eyes. Led by the All Region, All State and All y, Everything captain Reed over four pushed they touchdowns and an extra point. Captain Stolworthy added to his scoring this year with a 25 yard sprint, also good for six points. The other two touchdowns came as a result of two passes from Quarterback Harold Christensen to Halfback Bob Swenson. For Springville Harold Norton was the big power behind the team. This year the Wildcats have scored 66 points as to 78 points of the opponents. 25-1- Stol-worth- ' Wild Cats Prove Themselves By Downing Cavemen American Fork Cavemen were the victims of B. Y. Reed Stolworthy led the attack with his running that was really outstanding. The Y line showed it was not easy for a team to go It displayed a hard through. charge and a real determination to win. The Y scoring was made by an end run of Stolworthy and a pass from Christiansen to Allred. Stars of the game go to the forward wall of the Wildcats. Does it ever seem to you that when you are the closest to victory that your goal is farther off? When you see smooth sailing ahead, the hurricane strikes? This is what makes athletics. The fact that the scores are not decided until the very end and anything can happen until that time. In football the time to play hardest is when you seem the surest, this is the time when every man must play his best. The tricks of the game can pull some fast brakes and some fast winning scores in the last minute. All teams have their breaks, good and bad. Some more than others, but still they are a reckoning factor in any sports. This is true with people as well as football teams. When success seems the nearest, that is the time to put the extra effort into whatever you are doing. Remember the old saying its darkest before Inquiring Reporter . . . the sunrise. We hate to think that our beloved high school is full of a bunch of deadbeats, but what else can we think when we have a turnout of twenty kids to a dance? That isnt good! We must admit it, twelve of the above twenty, were in the orchestra. And half of those remaining were from Provo High. Horrors! What enthusiasm. (I :ould call it something else). Another thing. A lot of work goes into planning a dance with all the trimmings (decorations and an orchestra.) No one minds working out a dance when the when they can see that they have when accomplished something theyre through.
