According to Max Eastman, a former prominent socialist, Socialism does not jibe with human nature. The aim of socialism has been to escape from reality rather than adjust to it. Rather than escape the reality of people in medical need by socialization and having a failure of it, let us find a better way to adjust to the situation. Joan Shriver. What Have We UDome? By Canna de Jong A few days ago our student council made a survey of our building and the rooms in college buildings used by high school students. What they found was shocking and disgusting. But the sad part, of it is that a special survey is not needed to see the damage inflicted on our school anNd the utter disregard with which unthinking students have treated it. A short walk from the Education building down through ours reveals evidence of great lack of appreciation for school tradition and pride in cleanliness and ord6r. Walls and woodwork are chipped and marred with drawings and carvings. Chairs and tables in the library and classrooms show the same damage. Lockers, which were painted a light color for decorative improvement, now only emphasize the writing which so ungracefully adorns them. Lipstick fiends have left their trace everywhere: on windows, walls, in ugly doors, and mirrors smudges and idiotic sayings. But not only the inside is in such a "state. The front face of our structure is deeply engraved with names and initials of who seek fame through such crude broadcasting instead of outstanding achievements. ego-mania- cs True, the Arts building is old, but with age come traditions that the students of B. Y. High should be proud to respect and preserve. True, the halls and classrooms are barren of beautiful paintings and artistic decoration which would make a much more pleasant at- at one time, but our students were so destructive that the treasured pieces were recalled. If we would only stop to consider the possibilities for im provement we would see how much we are missing. What a lovely room 250A could be with care and effort on our part. And it must be on our part for we are the ones who spend half our waking hours in those rooms and halls. Lets make them what they could be what they should be. Theres a clean-u- p day coming; well give the place the works. Were going to do a job on B. Y. High. Were in business for ourselves; lets make our business a success. face-lifti- ng Wanted: More School Spirit Are you a part of B.Y. High, or are you just a member? From the way things looked at the game with Pleasant Grove, most of you are just members. Whats the matter with you kids? Where is your school spirit? If you come to the games to just sit and look pretty, why dont you stay home? You only make things look bad for your friend school spirit. - Jt seems to me that if you can put forth the effort to come to the games, you can put forth the effort to yell a bit. Sure you say you want more yells. Well.Tiow do you expect to get more yells if you dont yell when the cheer leaders get up to lead you? If you cooperate with the cheer leaders one hundred per cent, the cheer leaders will give 'you all the yells you can standi Its no fun to wear oneself out when nobody mosphere.
