Show I 1 the PAGE FOUR UINTAH BASIN FARMER Duchesne This is the county seat town of Duchesne county. When nature was lavishly planning this Basin as the depository of wealth which might tempt a Croesus into befieving himself a pauper, she planned the junction of these three rivers as the site of a city which was to be the guardian of the west ern gateway to the Basin. Before the advent of the white men it was the meeting place of the tribes for council and to form hunting parties over the three trails across the mountains. When the reservation was opened in 1905 the Federal officers recognizing the commanding position of this site located the town of Duchesne here. Since then the town has continued to grow and prosper. This indicate; that it has resources which justify its growth and assure its prosperous future by their value and vol- ume. Assets of Duchesne. Transportation and its relations to the trade routes of commerce are important factors in building a city. The location of Duchesne at the junction of the three only available routes westward out of the Basin therefor becomes a valuable asset. The present truck and auto traffic of the entire Basin, westward or into the Basin from the west must pass through Duchesne.
