XL I SADIE HAWKINS f c NOV6 A C “Get Down to a Hoedown” TICKETS ON SALE STARTING TODAY AND ARE AVAILABLE AT TICKET OFFICE AND INFORMATION DESK xl a a $350 per person $500 per couple The Single Parents Organization of USU will hold an open house Thursday Oct 29 at the Extension Center of the Triads from 4:30 pm to 7 pm “It’s mainly a support group” says program organizer Susan Thorngrcn “Our main goal is to get single parents together and get to know one another” Thorgren says that the organization should help members cope with the stress of being a single parent “It will be a source of information to single parents they can learn who to go to for help We can take care of each other’s children rather than paying for child care” The program was started this fall by Thor-ngre- n who had seen the Single Parents Organization at other universities She hopes that the program at USU will grow to become something very valuable and successful Val Christensen vice president of student affairs is backing the program by conducting stress workshops David VVeamer of the Campus Christian Fellowship Program is filling the role of adviser for the organization According to Thorngrcn custody of the child is not necessary to join the program Furthermore single fathers are as welcome as single mothers Many single fathers feel Hi- ---: against because they are the minority Thorngrcn “We would really like to get somelenlaA vice for parents who have legal problem Z are trying to get an attorney to speak at our meetings” she said “This would alsohdn members deal with the problems of divoiw Presently the Single Parents Organization open only for students but in the future Ho ngren said the program might expand to all single parents in the community “Students have more in common so it would be much easier to begin the program with jua the students” she said One of the obstacles hindering the succcaof the organization is the lack of publicity Jack Hollis a member of the program will have a table set up in the Student Center on Tueiday Wednesday and Thursday of each week Thi display will include information about the Single Parents Organization and how to get involved Any student interested in becoming a member should attend the meetings or call Susan Thorngrcn at 753-626- 9 RELIGION IN LIFE —i i ANYONE INTERESTED IN SERVING ON THE SADIE S HAWKINS DANCE COMMITTEE c THE 1 ST MEETING WILL BE g ®TUES OCT 27 6:00 pm S 3RD FLOOR SC " c ACADEMIC SURVIVAL IPAiniL mi IMJKIKI a GENERAL AUTHORITY Everyone is invited!!!
