The problem is not that this quarter’s speakers are bad The people who have been invited are talented and knowledgable in their respective fields Their presentations will probably prove to be interesting and informative Sadat’s death — front page news To the editor: is a direct hit as to why a election deserves front page coverage and the death of a prominent world leader makes page two Granted Mr Anderson Mr Burtenshaw and Mr Sadat are all political activists We as students of a university should be more concerned about the outcome of a local primary election than a significant change in the balance of world power We realize Claude’s goal of more electricity for Logan This local Still the speakers do not equal the roster of Convocations personalities who have preceded them at USU The Utah Statesman believes that USU students have come to expect and deserve more from their Convocations program Student officers of ASUSU and the Convocations committee members should do whatever it takes to provide a more notable selection of speakers for winter quarter The task will not be easy The Convocations committee has a great deal of work to do if it wants to put together an outstanding schedule instead of another average schedule such as the one USU students are being treated to this quarter The Utah Statesman only hopes that the committee will show some of its dedication of the past by spending the time and making the efforts which are necessary to return the Convocations program to its former level of excellence I USES John Ward editor Catherine Zalk Statesman (probably a way to get rid of Third Dam parking) is much more important than tome political activist sacrificing his life for world peace The death of a chanting political activist citizen voicing his beliefs may warrant second or third page the National Scholarship Research Service in the Oct 5 edition of The Statesman I felt the need to report my personal experience with what I thought seemed to be a “good deal” After learning of the program through a radio talk show I wrote to the address given I was soon sent a form to fill out which I felt to be general in comparison with what the company’s advertising lead me to expect Nowhere in the enclosed form were questions concerning the somewhat “odd” scholarships that were so much a part of the com- pany’s fancy sales pitch I mailed the form and a check for $35 to the company and waited for my list of 30-5- 0 scholarship sources When they arrived I quickly wrote letten to each of the listed source One by one the responses to my letters came in Two of the sources had halted their scholarship programs due to lack of funding Others reported having never given financial aid at all Still other sources denied me aid because their programs had stipulations on them that Daniel Cassidy was obviously unaware t Two source sent at of “Job Outlooks” gent me the Baric Edtt£ Opportunity Grant form is one that is sad high school
