As a sophomore she placed in two events, long jump and high jump, at her first meet, and during her junior year her coach en- -' couraged her to try other events Correspondent A tall, slenCLEARFIELD d der, young woman concentrates intensely as she stretches out to prepare for her run. The hurdles and the clock stand ready to challenge her, but in her mind she holds the key to excellence on the track and on the path of her life. Laura Zaugg, a 1984 Clearfield High School graduate, knows believing in yourself is a quality that can lead to unlimited success. Her accomplishments in academics and sports speak for themselves and have almost every college and university in the area hot on her heels with arship offers. She graduated with a 3.9 grade point average in a 4.0 system, ranking 18th in her class, and was given the Outstanding Student Achievement Award upon graduation. Miss Zaugg is one of those rare gifted students who excels in a variety of fields and whose personality is friendly and outgoing. I like to express myself in dif-n ferent . ways, she says in a voice. And whether it is track and field or drama, it is certain she has the confidence in herself to accomplish the goals dark-haire- 100-met- 100-met- 200-met- er er cord. She is always thinking upward and onward with clear goals in sight. If I can keep on improving at I have been the. last few she said, there is no weeks, limit to what I could do. She admits she would like to become a world champion and possibly compete in the Olympics in the years to come, but she realizes the dedication ar.d work required of any exceptional it was WEEK ora the--ra- te athlete. She explains her philosophy of determination, A person should never give up when she decides-t- o do something. If you believe in yourself, thats really all you need there is no limit to what a person can achieve if she sets her mind to it. y, Miss Zaugg also expresses her- . self through drama, and has competed successfully in drama meets with humorous interpretation. Besides being chosen as the outstanding drama student at CHS the past three years, she was named her schools nominee as a sterling scholar in speech and drama and received the maxiumum achievement award, which is the result of a vote by drama students. She was also named best actress for her role in The Curious Savage. John Flint, head track coach at CHS, is supportive and complimentary of his former student. Laura Zaugg is one of the most pleasant students I have worked with in my ten years of coaching.
