And last spring he conducted a very informative (and dignified) session on summer accident prevention and first aid for the Lakeview Hospital. He is the chairman of the board of SPlore. Dr. Dennis Wyman, lead and base guitarist wearing the tight black leather convenpants, hurried to the tion room after working a shift in Jhe Lakeview Hospital emergency room. In 1981, the band played its first gig o at the Gormet at $25 a plate for 100 people to raise some money for SPlore. Mimnaugh said that they do their own promotions and Wasatch Touring helps them by selling tickets for most of their engagements. Everyone who comes to one of their parties gets refreshments and beer and a lot of dancing. The Disgusting Brothers Band has raised a few sand dollars toward the goal of $28,000 for SPlore this year, Mimnaugh said. The band is probably at its most disgusting at the Green Street Social Club in Salt Lake. Bob Slingerland, an owner of the Green Street Club has worked with the band on holidays such as Halloween, and through the Christmas and New Year season, so that they have become regulars at. the club. With the mens busy schedules, practice time, he said, is probably one of their biggest obstacles . Still, they practice 10 to 12 hours a month, Mimnaugh and Ham were rjver guides themselves who formed the group to give the disabled the same opportunity to be in the outdoors. Now the organization relies on its trained volunteers to meet the actual and special needs of the people who go on the is trips. When SPlore was in its beginning stages, Mimnaugh explained, grants were sought to fund the trips, without much luck. People like Ken Slight Expeditions donated time and boats for the trips, but the special needs of the guests were so different that SPlore started training physical therapists, doctors, psychologists and anyone interested in the training, Mimnaugh said. bad to know things such as how t They to recognize insulin shock, how to handle wheelchairs, securing them to the boats, and how to instruct the clients in safety.
