Begun in 1983 by the Salt Lake City Mail Sectional Center, the Safety Incentive Awards Program is designed to encourage safety consciousness among postal workers. Studies show that 7 cents of every 20 cent stamp goes toward injury costs. The awards are given in two categories: industrial safety and safe driving. The industrial safety award is given to workers who have been accident free for one year while delivering mail on foot or working in the post office. Typical accidents are dog bites, falls and injuries received while lifting heavy ob- jects. PAULSON, 3, and his classmates at Winters Wonderland Day Care and Preschool practice songs they have been busy learning for a parent's program. The Kaysville day care will present the program today at 6:45 DAVID the school. Estelle Rigby and Marie Ferrin, teachers at the preschool, will demonnstrate some of the learning comcepts taught. at Safe driver awards are given for one year accident free records when driving a postal vehicle. McConnell competed against workers from other post offices in Utah which serve an area similar to the size of Roy. Names are drawn from eligible applicants to select monthly winners. As a recipient of the safe driv- - ' er award, McConnell received a $25 gift certificate and is elig- . ible to compete for the annual award.
