Carbon will host Springville in their Homecoming football game at 7:30 p.m. on the Dino field. The Homecoming dance will follow the game in the Grand Canyon Hall. With the recent decision by the Carbon Student Council and the administration to cancel the Homecoming parade, an Almost Anything Goes competition has been scheduled in its place. Events include fire drill, Volkswagon push, Volkswagon stuff, pyramid building, balloon throw, hackey sac, obstacle course and dunking machine. At the end of the day, all points (including games and competition) will be tallied up and the top five winners of each event will be given bonus points ranging from five to one for first to fifth place. Principal Eugene Crocco said this carnival competition will spark more participation in Homecoming events and help to get all students involved. The East Carbon High School band, organizations and kids with decorated bikes will be participating in the parade. Anyone who wishes to join in the parade is welcome. The crew is doing a followup on football coach Knute Rockne by following his East Carbon football coach grandsons Knute Rockne Ills coaching career. The filming will encompass the activities at East Carbon High School during Homecoming Week, the game and a personal interview with Rockne. This proposed show will be shown on national television at a future date. East Carbon Booster Club President Vick Herrera, vice president Cordie Martinez, treasurer Sissy Manzanares and secretary Karen Andrews and all club members have been busy with a membership drive. The Booster Club is beginning a new annual tradition this year by offering a trophy for the one student who best exemplifies all around good sportsmanship throughout the year. This spirit trophy will be presented at the annual sports award banquet in the spring.
