Show IS TTTCi fTTTTTHl i tTTnn FORD TON FROM ALLEN: Green Sheet reviews of SERVICE- - HOW A 5650 So. Statew20-i- 1978 SHOP ALLEN KNUTSON QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTOR OPERATES Last week I talked about how important good communication is between you and the service advisor. This week Im going to explain how a shop operates. Let me start by mentioning all shops have different policies and procedures they use. But there are common denominators among all GOOD shops. These are what Ill explain. Once you notice you are having a problem with your vehicle call ahead and make a reservation. If its an emergency just come right in. We try not to overbook our service department so your vehicle is not tied up longer than needed, but it does happen at times. When making a reservation let us know all your service needs; this will enable us to reserve enough time to finish your vehicle on time. When you bring your vehicle in and after your problem is accurately written up on a repair order (RO), this RO goes to a dispatcher. Its his or her job to send the work to the technicians and handle any special time requests you might have. If you need your vehicle by a certain time or need to wait for it, tell the advisor, who will note it on the RO. If your request cant be honored, he will tell you then. A dispatcher will send workout in this fashion: waiting customers first, time reservations, all day reservations, and then drive-i- n customers. On occasions a minor repair will turn in to a major repair. If this happens, your vehicle may not be finished when promised. A good advisor will notify hisher customers when this happens. After the work is done it is road tested by the technician. At Gordon Wilson Chevrolet I also road test the vehicle to insure your satisfaction and to make certain your vehicle is in proper operating condition. After I road test your vehicle the RO is sent to the cashier to figure out the bill. When you pick up your vehicle the bill you receive will be a copy of the RO, and should have the following information: 1) Your instruction as to what the problem was; 2) What we found to 'cause the problem; 3) What we did to correct the problem; 4) Any additional information you should know such as parts which needed to be ordered, other work which is needed, etc. Before paying your bill look over the RO to see what was done and why. If you have any questions or cant Understand the RO request to have your advisor Jcome and explain what was done. After paying Your bill you will receive a copy of the RO. RETAIN IT FOR YOUR RECORDS. If after youve gotten your vehicle, you still feel everything isnt right or you have a question, DONT WAIT, as soon as possible go back to the advisor who helped you and question him. If you still arent satisfied, ask to see the service manager. Hes paid to see that you are kept happy. Its important to understand that mistakes will happen. Thats not an excuse, but a fact. If anyone would approach someone with that understanding hell bend over backwards to help you. Its my belief everyone wants to do a good job and have a chance to correct his mistakes. DONT BE AFRAID TO QUESTION. Youll be rewarded with quick solutions to your problems. All GOOD shops want to keep you as a customer. We believe that no one is going to bring their vehicle in for work just for the fun of it, or to aggravate our technicians. Either the problem you are experiencing is a normal operation which you might be unaware of or you definitely have a problem. If the problem is an intermediate this is where good communication is necessary to help find the problem, which will save you time tather than returning your vehicle again and again for the same problem. Next week Ill cover preventive maintenance. If you have any questions youd like asnwered in my column, please write: Gordon Wilson Chevrolet, co Allen Knutson, 5650 So. State, Murray 84107.
