Show il THE PAYSONIAN, PAYSON, UTAH PERUNA The Greatest The Housewife and theV ar Human Vitalizer Mr. Wm. A. Hartman, 217H South lecond St., Muskogee, Okla., writes: (Special Information Service, U. S. Department of Agriculture.) A Our boys are defending this country on the high seas and on the land. Our own defense against a common enemy Is to keep the system clean by ridding the body of the toxins, or poisons, which are bred in the intestines. When you feel tired, sleepy, headachy, when your breath is offensive, or pimples appear on the face and neck, It Is time to recognize the danger and protect your bodily health by taking something for the liver such as Dr. Pierces Pleasant Pellets. The machinery of the body needs to be oiled, kept in good condition, just as the guns or machinery of a ship. Why should a human person neglect his own machinery more than that of his automobile or his guns? Yet most people do neglect themselves. Their tongue has a dark brown color, skin sallow', breath bad, yet they fait to see that their machinery needs attention. Dr. Pierces Pleasant Pellets have been known for nearly half a century. leaves of They are made of aloe and jalap, made into a tiny pellet and coated with sugar. They are standard and efficacious. WIDE TIRES IMPROVE ROADS They Have 8ame Effect on Country Highway at Roller on Field-A- lto Pull Eatier. You dont need sugar on Wide tires build up roads and save horse labor. They have the same effect upon a country road as a roller on a plowed field. On the other hand, the narrow tire cuts up a road like a disk. It has been found by actual test In this wagon matter that the wide-tire- d pulls easier in nearly all cases than the narrow-tire- d wagon. In deep mud wagon a country road the wide-tire- d on pulls 6.2 per cent easier. On the country road with a thin surface of mud or deep dust, however, the narrow tires pull 4.9 per cent easier. In a cornfield the wide tires pull 30.5 per cent easier, in a dry alfalfa field 17.7 per cent easier, and on a dry country road 10.2 per cent easier. Ontario Makes Good Roads. The Province of Ontario has approximately' 55,000 miles of roads. More than 43,000 miles have been treated and are in fairly good condi tion. About 20,000 miles are well graded earth roads; about 3,000 miles are surfaced with broken stone, and about 19,000 are surfaced with gravel. s. All Roada Lead Home. Theres a Reason' roads lead to home. You are not at fault if they are not all good roads, but you are to blame If Its not a good All borne. Yes, the kaiser Is an exact counterpart of Chief Wawa. A missionary penetrated into the kingdom of Wawa, the cannibal chief, and tried to convert him, but, of course, it was no go. Do you know the difference between right and wrong? the missionary asked in the course of the argument. I do that, says Wawa. Well, then, what is right? says the missionary. Its right, says Wawa, when I raid that village across the river, steal oil the girls and cattle and kill ail the men. And what is wrong? said the mis sionary. Chief Wawa put on a look of pious horror and turned up the whites of his eyes, Just like the kaiser does, and then he answered, In a snuffling voice: It would be wrong for that vll Inge to do the same to us. " MEALS THAT MAKE STURDY YOUNG AMERICA Not long ago some of the nations expert thought on food problems specialists of the department of agriculture and the food administration concentrated on a leaflet, Food for Your Children, due consideration being given to war food problems. Among other things the specialists suggested these sample meals as models of sufficiency and economy. There are two suggestions for each meal. Many others, as well as popular discussions of child feeding, are contained in Food for Young Children. A real curiosity in the United Slates office is a working model of the first steam engine, buiit by a clever patent inventor named Hero a centnry and a half before Christ was born. A modern engineer would call It a steam reaction turbine. It consists of a spherical vessel pivoted on an axis and supplied with steam through one of the pivots. The steam escapes through bent pipes in opposite directions, thus causing the globe to revolve. Hero was the first, steam engineer. Having hit upon the idea that the expansive energy of steam could be used fur power, he developed a number of devices for its mechanical employment. One of them was a hollow altar, beneath which a fire was built. Under the altar was u vessel containing water. The latter, converted into steam, opened the temple doors by pressure upon a pair of vertical posts on which the doors swung. When the fire cooled, the doors closed automatically. The ancients 2,000 years and more ngo used steam power for turning spit and vurlous other unimportant purposes. But it does not seem to have occurred io them thnt this' source of energy might be made available for t Mothers Important Examine carefully every bottle of mechanical utilization on a large scale. After trying many doctors and all other recommended remedies made known to me, I was induced to use Peruna. I was cured entirely by using twelve bottles of Peruna and one bottle of Manalin. Since that time, I have never been without Peruna. I use it for colds and as a general tonic during Spring and Fall months and find it the greatest humau vitalizer." Your child must have the best of foods even In war time. He must have his chance. Wrong food too little, too much, or wrong kinds hurts the childs chance of being the strong, healthy boy or girl you want. It takes right food to make strong bodies, rosy cheeks, good brains, and bright eyes. Dont skimp him. Fed in accordance with his body needs ns these are now understood a child should have every day at least one food from each of the following groups: 1. Milk and dishes made chiefly of milk most Important of the group ns regards childrens diet ; meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and meat substitutes. 2. Bread and other cereal foods. 3. Butter and other w holesome fats. 4. Vegetables and fruits. 5. Simple sweets. Ration Is Illustrated. The Illustration shows the ration for a live youngsters day. The foods suggested contain enough different kinds to meet all the childs needs. Many other meals might have been shown others are suggested elsewhere for there Is no food in the pictures, except milk, which could not have been replaced by some other wholesome food. Milk, if it can be obtained, should form part of the food of every child, except when for some special reason the doctor objects, and this he seldom does. How much should the child hnve? A good e is to provide three or four glasses one and one-hapint to one quart of milk a day; an egg or its equivalent in moderately fat meat, fish, poultry, or meat substitutes ; fruit and vegetables each once a day ; one or two ounces of butter or other wholesome fat; and all the bread or other cereal food he will eat. One or two ounces of sugar, candy, or other sweet Including the sugar used in cooking lf may also be allow'ed, if this does nol prevent eating the other foods mentioned. No coffee or tea not even a taste Leave them for the grown-ups- . Milk, cocoa, not too strong, and fruit juices are the drinks for children, and plenty of water always. Sweets at Meal Time. Sweets are good for them the right ones at the right time. Dates, raisins, stewed fruits, simple puddings, sugar cookies, are better than candy. Give them at meal time. Between meals let them have bread and butter, a cracker, or fruit. They wont spoil the appetite, and candy will. Here are some, good dishes for children. They are good for grown-up- s too.
