He had decided to go to Alabama and called them on the phone and told them of his decision. Coach Bear Bryant then called and congratulated him on his choice. I TALKED to Chuck about SEVERAL WEEKS ago the Braves had just lost in double overtime to Bonneville and things looked bleak for the Bountiful team to even get a sniff at the state event. Then something got the Braves going and in their next three games they were awesome. Not only did they win, but they did it in easy fashion. First they beat Clearfield which was fighting for the league championship. Then came Viewmont and after what the Vikes did to the Braves in game one, you couldnt find anyone in the city who would bet for Boun- THEN THE foul play occurred. Someone sent a fake Mailgram to Chuck stating in effect that there wasnt a scholarship available for him at Alabama. By all indications the Crimson Tide had sent the Mailgram, this is what Chuck saw. As luck would have it the parents were out of town at the time and so Chuck was left alone to think things through. He then weighed the facts again and chose to sign with BYU. SINCE THEN everyone is pointing accusing fingers at just about anyone who knew Chuck Ehin. Was it another school, or a joke by some idiot? Are there coaches in this fair country that would pull off this trick for whatever the reason? True the publicity in this case has been big, but then recruiting of young innocent high school players is big business. How many other little tricks like this have been pulled off without the culprit being found and dealt with? - Now that BOUNTIFUL the race is over and the dust has settled its time to step back and consider just what happened in the basketball wars in Region One this past . last night of action with a good win over the vastly improved Bountiful club. Seniors on the club want to go to the tournament in their last year, the juniors want to go to see what its all about and for an advanced look for next year. IT WAS the play of the three seniors that gave the Braves the shot in the playoffs. By DAVE WIGHAM its Well that time of the year again when all the regions in 4A have concluded their regular season play and now its time to get down to the business of finding ' out just which team is the best in the state. THIS YEAR the format of the tournament has changed from previous years. This year the tournament begins on Friday and actually runs over a two weekend period. The tournament starts this Friday, March 2, then games are on March 3, Monday, March 5 and Tuesday, March 6. Teams are then given Wednesday and Thursday off to recover and the tournament concludes March 9 and Receives Honors and building for the future. Viewmont was pushed into overtime by the Lakers which is an indication of the balance of the league, and Layton only won by four over Bonneville. The region gave its fans all the excitement available. The league title went down to the finish with the bottom teams giving the top teams trouble all year. Now hopefully the teams from around the league can play up to their abilities in the state tournament to show fans around the state that basketball is played well outside the city limits. of ; received the Meritorious Service Medal at Kapaun, Ger- His wife, Jeanette, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Al Pike of 992 N. First this way it lets the students stay in school with the majority of games in the evening. Secondly with the two weekend format each team gets a rest, before clubs were complaining of the grueling schedule especially in the lower bracket. Another reason might have been the fact that with two weekends the more adults can go which means more money for the association. The winner of that game plays Orem in the opening round of the state team for the reason they didnt win the league. Bountiful beat both clubs in the closing games of the league to give the Roy club the opportunity to win the league. However keep in mind the Royals did beat Clearfield in a crucial matchup. THE BRAVES again won in defensively. These five are the nucleus of the squad but they also get a lot of help from the bench in different situations. THE BRAVES now face Sky View in a playoff which was Marine Private Jeff pointing a finger at the same big, IT MIGHT hold true that an investigation would take time and money and in this case it would be well worth the effort. If we can spend the money and time on things like this, then we ought to go full steam ahead season. ROY WON the title on the tiful.
