He will enter the Missionary Training Center Jan. 10, 1990. Matthew graduated from Manti High School and Manti LDS Seminary. He is currently attending Snow College. He will speak in sacrament meeting in the Manti Stake Center Dec. 24 at 1:30 p.m. Paulette Mclff and Travis Jed Often t Manti Temple rites will join Paulette Mclff, Travis Otten Mr. and Mrs. Paul D. Mclffof West Valley City, announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Paulette, to Travis Jed Otten, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clair Otten of Sterling. They will be married Thursday, December 28, 1989 in the Manti LDS Temple. A reception honoring the new couple will be held that same evening in the Sterling Ward from 7:30 to 9:30 Cindee Toone changes name to Mrs. Ken Beazer Mr. and Mrs. Keith J. Beazer of Ephraim are pleased to announce the recent marriage of their son, Ken, to Cidnee Toone, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Toone of Pleasant View, Utah. The couple was married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple Tuesday, December 19th. A reception was held in their honor that evening in Ogden. An open house is scheduled for Thursday the 2 1st of December at the Ephraim lst-5tWard Chapel. They invite all to attend this celebration from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Ken is a graduate of Manti High School where he was active in all the sports programs. He has served an LDS mission to Japan. Upon returning from h- his mission he furthered his education at Snow College. While at Snow, Ken participated in football and was a member of the 1985 national championship team. Ken graduated from Weber State College last June with a bachelors degree in broadcasting. While at Weber State, he played football and was an allconference selection as well as a GTE academic Cidnee graduated from Weber High School in Ogden. While at Weber, she was a member ofthe national championship cheerleading squad. Cidnee has been enrolled at Weber State where she has served as vice president of the LDSSA at the Institute the past year. The couple will leave after the holidays to make their home in Pullman, Washington where Ken has been hired as a graduate assistant football coach at Washington State University, while working on his M.A. in communications, and Cidnee will continue her studies for her bachelors degree. Expanding on the theme of A Touch of Class, the evening will feature an elegant candlelight dinner, dancing to the music of Dennis Miner, refreshments, and party favors. Lets all get acquainted and see the New Year of 1990 in together. have been awarded the 1989 John Brinckerhoff Jackson Prize for the best popular book about American human geography. The prize was awarded to Peterson and Bennion for their book Sanpete Scenes: A Guide to Utahs Heart, published by BasinPlateau Press. The $1000 award is given by the Association of American Geographers for a popular book of scholarly and literary merit on the human geography of the United States - one that interprets geographical scholarship in language that nonprofessional readers can appreciate and en-- joy. Special consideration is given to books that are carefully designed, appropriately illustrated, and physically appealing. Sanpete County, which is located approximately 100 miles south of Salt Lake City at the geographic center of Utah, is a microcosm of Mormon country and small town America according to Peterson. He notes more than 500 settlements across the West will identify strongly with culture landscape elements in Sanpete Scenes. More than black-and-whi- te photo- graphs, many from private collections, and numerous maps and graphs depict the special qualities of Sanpete County. We tried to make the book as visual as we could, says Bennion. Mr. Peterson also designed the book. The Jackson Prize was presented in conjunction with the Association of American Geographers 1989 Annual Meeting held in Baltimore. It is one of the most prestigious prizes awarded by the geography profession. The AAG is a nonprofit professional society founded in 1904 to promote and encourage geographic research and education.
