The cable company must locate the earth station site with two things in mind. One is to serve as many customers as possible and the other is the quality of translator reception. 3. An example is the sparkling dots seen throughout the Salt Lake channels is caused by the electrical interference of the lines near Spanish Fork Canyon. high-pow- er b. Another example is skip. This is where you see a combination of two channels on the same station. It usually occurs from spring to mid- summer under certain atmospheric conditions. This is caused by signals, which originate from another state, that evaluation of our antenna system that receives translator signals. We want to make sure that we are receiving the best possible signal from the translator to our antenna. Considerations: Can reception be improved, if so, by how much? Cost and timeframe of acquiring different equipment. 2. The other is the possibility of airing ABC, CBS and NBC via satellite from Denver, Colorado. Considerations: What do our customers want? What are the costs? Who bears this cost? Do we want to replace our Salt Lake channels with Denver channels? If we were to add the Denver channels (with our current channel line up filled) which 3 existing channels would we sacrifice? Operational costs have increased for our company. All companies have experienced the incremental cost of living. So often I have heard In 1980 I was only paying $ . for cable and today its higher." This is something that happens from problems in our lines or problems in individual customer New York to California and is connections. It is not often that typical for all cable companies. It is true that all smaller towns problems occur between the satellite channels and the cable will have a smaller channel line that a city. It is also true that companys satellite dishes. There up in our area pay the customers is only one link from the satellite basic TCI rate in the state lowest in and the cable space companys satellite dish. A satellite channel is a channel received via satellite, CNN, TNT, USA, ESPN, AMC, WTBS, Nick, HBO, DISNEY, etc. The Salt Lake channels are not received by satellite, but by translators. The Salt Lake channels do not offer satellite transmission. Have you ever noticed how clear the satellite channels are when compared to the Salt Lake channels? It is unfortunate that the Salt Lake channels do not care to provide satellite transmission like the Denver channels do. The only reason that we are able to receive the Salt Lake channels is due to the generosity of the counties who have been providing translator services in Utah for the last 50 years. Cable companies in rural Colorado receive the network channels via satellite. They have no reception problems. They have no skip problems. The folks in rural Colorado see the same programs we do with our Salt Lake channels, but instead of Utah news, weather, sports and commercials, they view Colorado news, weather, sports and commercials. Their network stations are offered by satellite, not translators. As a convenience to our customers we provide the Salt Lake channels, although cable companies are not required to do so. It is our intent to provide these channels to our customer. We are not only aware of the reception problems with the Salt Lake channels, we are also empathetic to this problem and we are seeking a solution. Where do we go from here? Currently research is being done in two areas. j. The first is the of Utah. The monthly basic and expanded basic rate for cable TV is $18.25. This amounts to 60 cents a day, or 2.5 cents per hour. Cable TV offers you programs to be watched at your convenience, in the privacy of your home, with any number of people and a good selection of programming. movie for A single two-hofour adults is likely to cost more than the monthly subscriber rate. You will also find additional money being left at the concession. Do you remember the cost of movie admission in ur 1980? In 1990 all employees in our system successfully completed the Customer First" course. Our employees constantly strive to give you the best service possible. We have made, or are in the process of making over 20 changes to upgrade our customer service. One example is that, in the near future we will no longer use an answering service for after-hou- r calls. In place of the current answering service, we will have TCI Customer Service Representatives available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year. Customers will call the regular service telephone number and their call will be forwarded, at no cost, to a centralized location in Salt Lake City. This location will have employees trained to handle all customer needs. It is our goal to provide the best possible service - 24 hours a day! Succeed in school Plastic charge cards hadnt been thought of in early pioneer days, but Brigham Young, the ever careful and considerate loving father and husband, had charge accounts for each of his wives. A family store, with John Haslam as the storekeeper, was located in the north end of Salt Lake Citys historic Beehive House, , Brigham Youngs primary residence. The store carried staples, medicine, notions, dried peas and apples, calico cloth and candy. Each wife had a charge account in this store as well as in the Zions Mercantile Cooperative Wests Institution, the leading dry goods store at that time. Card of Thanks Card of Thanks when the City Council meets and considers the zoning matter, taking into account the Zoning Commission's recommendations. We wish to express our appreciation to the many who have been so thoughtful of us during the time Virginia has been in the hospital. We have received many calls, cards, flowers, food and many acts of kindness and we are deeply grateful. Thanks for your caring. Ray and Virginia Thompson Following is a brief explanation of the reason for proposing the zoning change. The proposed zoning change is to correct a commercial zoning deficiency in Manti City. When the zoning ordinance was first created in October 1981, the planners zoned off the main areas of commercial businesses as "commercial", without considering the businesses that were outside that area. Those areas continue to run their businesses, but are actually in "residential" areas. Some of these businesses include the Manti Motel, Manti House Inn, Temple Motel (at the time of the zoning), and Roy Hatch Realty, all of whom operate their businesses in the residential zone. It is now time to protect these businesses, and give the commercial zoning the chance to expand to its potential, to induce new businesses to locate in the business center rather than be forced to the outside of the city limits to qualify for "commercial" General Manager Southern Utah Systems publlahad waakly lor Milli-Vanill- Eulala Spell Bulow what his reverses or financial conditions may become, she was never to mortgage or give him And the wives were not limited the Beehive House." in either account.
