Show Messenger-Enterpris- Lady Badgers have young team Lady Templars open season with victory over South Summit squad Manti High Schools volleyball team, with new coach Leslee Warr at the helm, got off to a rousing start last week by defeating South Summit varsity on the Lady Templars home floor. The South Summit ladies but the won the first game down buckled Lady Templars 15-9 and two and won the next 5, 15-- 7. The results went true to form, since the Manti volleyball squad is rated No. 4, and the South Summit team No. 5 in the State 2A volleyball rankings. The Manti junior varsity, however, didnt fare so well, as they lost 5 and 5. This week, the Lady Templars again have a home game, against Gunnison. The RY GARY freshmen will play at 4 p.m., the junior varsity at 5:30 p.m., and the varsity at 7 p.m. to the regional tournament. Coach JoAnn Jeppson will lead the volleyball team for the fifth straight year, and intends Our first goal this year is winning the Region 12 championship, Coach Warr said. That will take some doing: two upcoming opponents, Morgan and Grants ville are both ranked ahead of the Lady Templars. to improve as the season progresses. They will take on the North Summit Braves on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. on the Snow College field. The Braves are also noted for their running game and tough defense. They are picked to finish high in the 2A standings. The Templar coaches know 7-- 4 4-- 5, where theyve got to make changes. One ofthem is providing better protection for quarterback Alan Cox, who needs on more time to get off his passes. Another change is eliminatthe ing penalties that kept setting the Templars back in the North Sanpete game. The Templars put together only one sustained drive during the game.
