They were all judged by the Tidy Town Contest Judging Panel Wednesday, September 1st. The group guided through Manti by Committee President Don Cofer and members Barbara Cofer and Benton Petersen. Committee member Joni Ferrin also helped coordi- nate the tour. The judges arrived in town about 6:30 p.m. and were shown around the community until the sunlight ran out. The Committee was very proud of all the efforts the city, county, businesses, and the residents have made in order to beautify the city. Whether Manti wins the contest or not the judges expressed their gratitude for all the efforts of the people involved. Manti is indeed becoming the garden spot of Central Utah. Aiding in the beautification of the city were the two award winners this month for Best Upkept and Most improved awards. Winning the Best Upkept Award were Jack and Leslie Madsen of 296 South 100 West. They have taken a large piece of property and made it into a lawn and flower showcase. When Mr. Madsen was told that all his hard work had paid off he laughed and said, "Yes, Ill have to get my wife out more often. Roger and Shelly Alder were the winners of the Most Improved Award this month. They have taken a yard with an old abandoned house and are in the process of cleaning it up, removing the old house, and with a lot of hard work have made the comer look very nice. In fact, one day while they were removing walls from the house, a bunch of tourist stopped to watch them for a while according to Shelly. Not that is ob- servable improvement Thursday, September 2nd the Beautification committee held its meeting at the City building. The committee decided to pursue the $9000.00 grant for urban forestry. Plans were now being made on planting trees on the North and South ends of the city and throughout the town on city property. The committee was also made aware of the plans for Christmas Decorations to be set up at Heritage Comer and gave its support for those efforts. If you wish to become part ofa very active committee where you can see the rewards of your efforts please make a note on your calendar to meet with the Committee next October 7th at the Old Grist Mill Bed and Breakfast. Be there at 7 p.m. Religion, race or politics do not matter. But if you have a burning desire to make Manti even more beautiful than it is be sure to be at that meeting. Cassie A.
