No John MacEnroe or Jimmy Conners tantrums are seen coming from any Manti player. Courtesy, respect and sportsmanship are as essential as that means respect for a killer serve or overhead smash coaches, team members, opponents, judges, and equipment. To Coach Braithwaite, character development and grades are more important than winning, and he produces a lot of winners - on and off the court! No wonder Coach Braithwaite is in the National Hall of Fame he has impacted many more lives for good than John or Jimmy! Snow College, with Coach Keith Uperesa and the Athletic Department, is also nationally recognized for producing a high achieving academic team. Now Snow is in the national spot light for producing a team that wins on the field too. Sportsmanship and teamwork are a big part of the success formula at Snow practices. If you want to party go to Dixie; if you want to learn and work, you come to Snow, claims Uperesa. Theres something good in our Sanpete schools when coaches keep their priorities of education first, along with character development and ethics. Sportsmanship is the defining attribute that these coaches inspire in their students; something that students can carry with them long after their bodies no longer allow those amazing moves. They were good sports is a phrase often attributed to losing teams; however, the coaching staff I see at Manti High School and Snow College have no losers to their credits, thanks to their commitment to the students long term needs, as well as playing a good game. While other girls my age were playing ketball and volleyball, or running track and field, I was either in the music room or milking cows. It was a fun little secret to stay focused on cleaning out Blossoms ears, polishing her hoofs to a shiny black, and grooming her sleek brown and black hair to a glossy shine, while Billy wasted his time trying to get my goat.
