Blackham, Gunnison, has announced his candidacy for Sanpete County Commission. Mr. Blackham, currently employed by Utah Power, is running on the strength of his past experience. I le was mayor of Gunnison for eight years (1985-199and served on the Executive Board of the Association of Governments for three years. He is currently a member of the Advisory Council of the Utah Depart- School-to-Career- s. Blackham said that he is pledged to help refine the process of sharing information and resources among the communities and the county. I pledge to assist our communities in issues of law enforcement, utilities, zoning and others, he said. Good, responsible government should support families. Elizabeth Blauer. a daughter of Clyde and Gcanccn Blauer of Ephraim, was pi evented her Young Womanhood Recognition Award in sacrament meeting on March 22. in the Ephraim Second ward. lot her sen ice projects. Elizabeth made two quilts, worked on city beautification projects and has given volunteer service at the Sanpete Valley I lospital. She was a youth camp director for her ward. She is the accompanist for the Sanpete County Commissioner in the 998 election. I am concerned g for the of my family and the families of our county, Mr. Pickett said. I want them to be insured safe and secure communities with opportunities for future employment. In his statement, Pickett said: 1 well-bein- Sanpete County is facing many important issues. My background in both agriculture and business allow me the understanding for managed growth. We need to insure individual property rights wile providing an organized plan for growth. Mr. Blackham concluded, "I will make my decisions based upon what will be good for our families and our communities. and are required to budget our funds to the most essential items first. Many of those in government are hard working and dedicated to their jobs. However, the attitudes of some government employees need to be addressed. I worked for securities companies until returned to Gunnison in 1988 to work for Gunnison Implement Co. Debris andor haul away, not to exceed approximately one pickup truck load per dwelling, should be liir'9s IPipicc! lo 1U arc welcome placed street side the week of April 13 through 17. The materials to be placed for pickup should be divided into four categories with at least four feet between the categories. First: metal, Second: organics such as tree limbs and trimmings, Third: wood and assorted or miscellaneous trash materials and Fourth: rocks, brick, etc. Of special note is that this cleanup is not for commercial or large quantity loads, once again restrict the amount to approximately one pickup load per household. Individuals who can haul their own or assist their neighbors in the cleanup are encouraged to help as the volume presents considerable impact on city services. As an advance notice, all Manti citizens should be aware that following the cleanup no debris, trash or limbs should be placed street side on city property. Those who do so may be cited and may be charged for cleanup. Trash and debris that do not fit in the regular trash containers for weekly pickup should be taken to the landfill. Tree limbs and other organics which should not be placed in the regular trash container at any time should be taken to the organic recycling location which is temporarily located in the Industrial Park south of Manti.
