The following is a history on the Readasaurus that was found at the school. Over the years, our Ephraim Elementary Readasaurus has become an integral part of the school, but there may be patrons who wonder why he's here and just what he does Though his origins are somewhat shrouded in mystery, it's known that he was constructed with paper mache, cardboard, chicken w ire and old books (for ballast) in the winter of 1981 in what was then the old science lab at the school. It wasn't known then how long he'd want to stay, but from his first appearance he began sponsoring programs in the school designed to increase student's love of reading. One of the very first was to give a dinosaur footprint to students every time they read a book, which soon resulted in the entire school oeing covered with footprints. Shortly thereafter he started writing a daily message to students that was intended to tell them about school events and recommend books and ideas for reading. The first summer here, he inaugurated the Readasaurus Summer Reading Club in cooperation with the Ephraim Public Library. Occasionally, being a find a costume in which he won't be recognized. You'll see him in a cowboy hat for Frontier Fair, a graduation cap for Junior Genius, a turban for a Christmas Wise Man etc., but he did complain the year Ballet West visited and he had to wear a tutu!
