Flying instructor Dave Meacham has contracted with Snow College on a part time basis, to teach flying lessons to students. He has proposed to the cities that he would like to live at the airport to oversee activities there and to serve as caretaker of the facility. The airport has been serving the two communities and surrounding areas since 1941. Mr. Grindstaff reminded the Council that an updated airport would provide added impetus for economic development. Bids are ready to be let to fill that big hole on Main Street with a new city building. Erin Youngberg and Ross Wentworth, representing Manti-Ephrai- Naylor Wentworth Architects brought final drawings of the new City Office Building to the Manti City Council September 14. Building plans will be available to contractors September 28 and the bid date is set for one month from the Council meeting, October 4. It was decided that, because of concerns about covering the canal behind the building and other details, the parking lot and attendant facilities will be separated from the building bid and will be let at a later date. Some citizens have asked that the Council reconsider this decision and reinstate the alarm. A citizen petition requesting that the siren continue as in the past was presented to the Council at the time it was turned off. Others in the city are pleased with the present policy which states that the siren only sound in cases of emergency. The City Council is divided on this issue as well and so they decided that they needed to conduct an informal poll of the community and get citizen response to this dilemma. City Recorder Bill Mickelson was directed to initiate a plan for conducting such a poll.
