Council Member Earl Wheeler stated that there is no question that the salaries are too low, but he felt that this new schedule is a step in the right direction and that hopefully, a review in six months will enable an employee to have his salary increased if he qualifies. I have had varied experiences in my life with people, and while serving on committees with Manti City and other places where I lived previously. I believe in accountability and providing responsible city government to the citizens of Manti. I listen to people's concerns regarding city issues, and act to resolve in our problems and conflicts that will enhance the quality of life for people in Manti. I believe in mutual respect, being courteous with one another and having dialogue communications in order to get tasks completed effectively and efficiently and in a timely manner. feel that have the experience to help move Manti City into the 21st century to meet the challenges and opportunities that we face for our future. We as a City Council have met and are meeting the challenges of our city in the following ways: improving the infrastructure by having secured finances to complete the culinary water project which is being completed at the present time. Part of the water project contract entails repairing and restoring the roads and streets now in the autumn time and in the spring after the ground settles so we can put our streets back in order in the proper way. We now have new pipelines, valves, more fire hydrants for fire protection, a new chlorination facility near the million gallon water tank, etc. This culinary water project will meet the needs of Manti citizens for many years to come. The City Council has secured funds for the new Manti City Office Building, and we are prepared to accept a bid by a contractor very soon. We need this new buildmuch-neede- d ing to meet the present and future needs of Manti citizens. It will be a great and beautiful addition to our city and many people will be pleased with this investment in our community. Three main issues that I would like to address are cnme prevention, economic growth, and youth programs. Crime Prevention: All of us as citizens can help reduce and minimize crime by being alert and observant in our surroundings. If you witness suspicious activities or laws being broken, please report the incident to the Sheriff's Department. Give and gather as much information as you can to help the police resolve the case. The City Council is in contact with the Shenff and his department on a monthly basis, discussing law enforcement issues. Citizens need to take personal responsibility to obey the laws of the land and to follow and do according to what ordinances have been passed and adopted by the City Council and the citizens at large. I am in favor of more enforcement of the laws in Manti to save lives and to have safe streets and residences. I have gone on record many times at City Council meetings during the last four years to make a change to adopt our own Manti City Police force again. have a plan to accomplish this with funds that are available or accessible to Manti City. The Citizens Observation Patrol is an active, trained volunteer organization that is sanctioned by the City Council to assist in reducing crime by being the eyes and ears of the community, and reporting criminal activities to the Shenffs Department for response and follow-uWe need more volunteers, so please contact the city office and we will contact you. Inform us as to what your feelings are regarding law enforcement in Manti City. Economic Development: The second main issue is Economic Development. The City Council has had discussions about this issue, and am in favor of bringing clean manufacturing jobs and employment to our city. Many citizens in Manti have spoken with me these last four years about local people wanting to work close to home; however, there aren't enough jobs here for the people who want them, so they travel to surrounding counties for employment. will follow-u- p and actively pursue desired jobs for Manti residents. Youth Programs: The third main issue is Youth Programs. Manti City and the Council supports our youth and the city offers many activities they can participate in, including baseball and softball teams and leagues, Junior Jazz basketball teams, volleyball teams, Independence Day activities, Young Ladies Talent Pageants, and Youth City Council, an excellent program that teaches young people about how government operators, how we can each make our contributions to society, and to serve each other. If any citizens have any ideas about how we can better help our youth, please contact the members of the City Council. Thank youl Thanks to all the citizens of Manti for all the contributions you do to make Manti a quality place to live! would like to encourage you as citizens to be involved in your city government, and a special thanks to those people who are already serving on committees and boards for the city. Thanks to all of you for serving I will continue to do the each other in the city, community, church, and schools, for the benefit and investment for we, the people!
