Water lines, roads, cemetery, park, power, safety, and even general appearance of the community are issues of importance. Erection and maintenance of city owned buildings requires time and effort of city employees and considerable -making on the part of the council. In the council meeting, December , most of the hour and 20 minutes (short, compared to the usual two to three hours) were decision- 1 spent discussing infrastructure concerns. Public Works Director Dale Nielson reported that the water project work is now shut down except for completion of the chlorination building, because of difficulties with grade finishing and gravel placement. Mr. Nielson has met with the contractor regarding these issues as well as other concerns. He has also written letters to the engineering firm documenting the problems and work on the project will be in abeyance until there is a satisfactory resolution. The new city entrance signs are showing wear already. Jim Bench, creator of the signs has been contacted and as the weather permits, he will do necessary repair and reworking of the structures to prevent future damage. Trees outside the fence at the schoolcity ball park have been damaged, apparently by four wheelers being driven in the area. Dale Nielson said that steel posts will be installed to protect the trees. The most exciting news was that the preliminary plans for the new fire station to be located near the Middle School have been completed and a copy is floating around w ith the fire chief, Ronde Larsen. The Council and Mayor are anxious to review the plans and offer input. The new facility is expected to cost $670,00 and to fund it the Council passed a lease revenue bond through the Ephraim Building Authority. These funds will come from the Community Impact Board as a low interest loan. Itis'anticipatedthatthenew facility will be started in the Spring nomic development and the chamber of commerce.
