II Hunter, Cathy Waite Fullmer, at Roy . 1969-167- Hot-Sh- By CINDY SHY Staff Writer Hustle, ability and attitude allowed three local seniors to be distinguished from their peers when they qualified for the All Star Sports Travel Volleyball team. Honored by the selection were seniors Lynette Bradford of Viewmont, April Hatch of Layton, and Donna Wood of Clearfield. Competing against 30 seniors from as far south as Payson to as far north as Logan, they proved themselves to Coach Joan Burdett of Skyline High and were selected for the 16 woman squad. Coach Burdett will be responsible for the team in its travels. . To be selected was an impressive honor but even more exciting is the fact that the team will travel to Hawaii this coming summer, and spend three days on the island competing against Hawaiian high school teams. Lynette Bradford, from Viewmont, daughter of Gerwynn and Lama Bradford of Bountiful, stated I was surprised to make it. I like the sport and Im looking forward to the trip, a lot. I wasnt confident at first, she noted concerning the tryouts. But once I started playing, I felt more confident. Lynettes coach, Kathy Davis, remarked, Im really glad she made the team. She has a terrific attitude and is very coachable. Shes the most consistent player we had. Coach Davis added that Lynette is a good hitter and server, and performed as a blocking specialist during . the regular season. Lynette impressed Coach Davis as a sophomore. She was the only lower classman to play varsity that year, and according to Coach Davis has tripled her talent since then. April Hatch, daughter of Gordon and Lottie Hatch, who reside at 4042 A Cambridge, HAFB, commenting on her selection exclaimed, I feel great about it! Wow, I cant wait! Layton volleyball coach Carolyn Warren remarked, Her jumping ability is one of her greatest strengths, and in turn it makes her a good spiker and blocker. Shes a consistent all around player. . Coach Warren added, Im glad she has this opportunity. Shes a fine kid. ' April started her volleyball career in ninth grade and has worked through the ranks to finish her senior year with a good season. Clearfields Donna Wood, daughter of Lloyd and Stacie Brown who reside at 8217 N. 1200 W., Clinton, was selected because shes a good hitter and plays the back roll well, according to Coach Burdett. a real honor that Donna got on the team, explains Clearfield volleyball coach Margo Jones. She contributes a lot to our team. Donna was all smiles about making the squad, I was shocked to death that I made it. I just tried out because I wanted to see if I could cut it. Besides impressing Coach Burdett, she has also impressed a few colleges and universities who are now approaching her to play for their schools. Tryouts for the team were open to seniors only, and were totally optional. Others who made the cut include Pablo Bernson, Skyline; Amy Gandnan American Fork; Denise Garner, Weber; Laurie Goodwin, American Fork; Christy Janke, Woods Cross; Geri Jardine, Woods Cross; Laurlyn Johnson, Mountain View; Jerri Lambert, Cottonwood; Holly Miller, Skyline; Carol Morris, Skyline; Angie Nunley, Cyprus; Jana Pilcher, Bingham; and Cheryl Tye, .jVSfcJL' Larson and Parry, .
