And most will vouch for that as anglers from virtually every corner of the state were catching their limits some at the rate of three fish per hour. It was an excellent opening state wide, and especially to the south, said Nanette Larsen, official for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. Some of the northern regions like the Weber River were slower due to high water, but generally speaking, the fishing was great. ' Larsen estimated that between 250 and 300 thousand anglers participated in the opening which is just about average, but went on to say that the littering and tresspassing violations were kept at a , minimum. This is good news for the serious angler because some of the prime fishing spots are located on private land which can be closed at any time if the land is abused. I v expected. Some camping is available. China Lakes This area should do well for cutthroats and water conditions are good. East Canyon Reservoir . tlilliili - browns. Pineview Reservoir area should provide a variety of pan fish and trout with good success from both boat and shore. The area is open to fishing year-rounbut the lower section surrounding the dam will be closed due to last years litter problem. Porcupine Reservoir Fishing for rainbow trout will be improved over past years with some larger browns expected. All litter must be taken out as the entire area is within private land. This popular fishing Water levels will be low which should make for ample success from boat and shore. Larger fish will be taken than last year. Echo Reservoir The forecast for this popular spot is much better than recent years although the fish taken will be smaller. Anglers can expect success from both boat and shore and camping is available. Laketown Canyon Water conditions are excellent and premium success is expected for cutthroat and rainbow trout.' Bear Lake This is the place to go if youre iooking for a trophy fish. The lake is one of the largest fresh water lakes in Utah and is open year-roun- d to fishing. Cutthroat and rainbow trout, are most common here. - Otter Creek Water conditions are good to very good with fair fishing . for rainbow expected. . private and permission Ogden River , Rockport Reservoir This state park should provide better fishing from boat than shore and the water level should be full most oif the season. Larger rainbow trout are expected here than in neighboring reservoirs and there is a reduction of anchor worm on the gill netted fish this year. South Fork Little Bear River of water conditions, Larsen reports levels are good to excellent statewide and says they should stay that way for the remainder of the summer.
