This is the situation Carolyn Baumgartner found herself in five years ago. But unlike many women who give up, or resign themselves to a minimum wage job, Carolyn sought help at the Center for Personal and Career Development (CPCD) at Utah Valley Com- munity College. She completed Successful Life Management, Assertive Communication and used other services the Center offers. The classes helped Carolyn get a handle on life, taught her prob New Air Force lem solving skills and how to be assertive. With her newly gained confidence she could act on the opportunities available to her. Going back to school in mid life is never easy, but Carol yn has more than answered the challenge. She has been on the Deans list three years in a row, maintaining a 3.9 GPA. She also was named one of two Outstanding Business Management Students for the 1990-9- 1 school year at UVCC. This spring she received the Vocational Excellence Award in Business from Governor Bangerter, the highest award in the Btate for Vocational training.
