Show Page 2 Orem-Genev- Times a n Wednesday, May 13, 1992 Editorial Therell be changes made...and none too soon Several physical changes in Orem along with some dramatic policies, procedures and education will help an often overlooked minority group, the handicapped, become more independent. City Council members accepted about 20 recommendations from the Human Relations Advisory Commission and ADA Subcommittee who have been identifying barriers to the handicapped since last January. For a handicapped person, whether in a wheelchair, blind or deaf, the barriers have been very real for a long, long time. Members of the committee commended city officials for dealing with these problems before ADA requirements become mandatory. Simple things like installing door assist opening devices in public buildings means a person in a wheelchair can enter a building unassisted. Having counter tops low enough to be seen and do business gives the person in a wheelchair equal access to become thoughtful...and law abiding, say the ADA commitwhat most people take for granted: the ability to fill out a tee. By Harold McCown Now we are closing in on the answer to the question "Can a businessman run government as he runs his business?" What we have discovered to date is business and government both seek wealth ana power. However, taxpayers and customers (incidentally these are the same people) give money to businesses and governments for different closures affect both the line worker and the white collar worker. Today layoffs are color blind. Businesses discovered the layers of bureaucracy they created prevented them from reacting quickly to market pressures, so they lost marketsnare; sales dropped. This, then, leads to the question, "IF business can reduce its bureaucracy, can government? And if not, why not?" choice. I am absolutely opposed to let government choose for me and tell me what my rights and freedoms are.
