Show 3B Finely County Proyiess, Castle Dale. Utah Tuesday, September 5, 2000 o Honored citizens The summer comes to an end with little water to spare, but still a need by the local farmers to share the w ealth of their gardens. It is not a great country?! Each year Ferron, as well as other cities in our county, have celebrations with parades, royalty, food and fun. Also, the cities name a person or persons to represent their town as citizens to honor for that year. This year as IVach Days approaches, Ferron City would like to acknowledge that their citizens for the year are the members of the American I'gion Ferron Post 42 and American Legion Auxiliary IT'rron Unit 42. These men and women are few but strong in their belief that this country is great. They serve their country, community, and families with great pride and devotion. They give of their time to teach patriotism, remember our veterans, do community work and protect our flag. They receive no monetary reward for this service, but they give of their time and heart freely. The American Legion was founded in 1919 at the end of World War I and adopted as its purpose and goals to assure that benefits promised to war veterans, were made available and also to establish a variety of civic programs in support of widows, orphans and communities as well as the veterans themselves. The Legion has remained the largest and most effective veterans organization the eounlry has known and continues its efforts in support of these goals. Ferron Post 42 received its charter in 1931 with 21 veterans signed on as charter members. I)st 42 purchased the old Presbyterian Church and School in 1943 at a cost of $1500.00. Many members of the Fbrron Post 42 you know and see each day. Each year for many years, Glen Swasey, Ked Hess, Gary Washburn, Philip Nelson, Dean Behling, and many other de- voted members of the Legion, have performed grave side services for many a fallen soldier. They as well as other members like Bryce Syndergaard, Ron Jewkes, Sam Singleton, Russ Swasey, and Don Riddle, have flipped those hamburgers for Peach Days for years. No reward comes to any of them except the joy of spending time with friends and providing a serviee to their community. Among other programs they have sponsored over the years is Utah Boys State. They have given freely of hard earned money each year to send local young men to this week of learning. Throughout the years, they have attended patriotic programs at the schools and done many flag ceremonies. Just ns w hen they were called to time it passes you, by standing and showing the proper respect it desen'es. As ahvays, behind a good organization are the women that belong to the Auxiliary and the love and support they bring to a good program. The women of Ferron Unit 42 are members of the largest women's patriotic organization in the world. Ferron's Unit has been very active in the program for many years.
