How life had changed with the blink of an e e. The fact that this w orld can hold such horrors w as not easy to adjust to 1 know the world can be cruel and is probably more times than not. But, my world here in rural Itah is rather sheltered, we aren't exposed often to the harsh realities of w hat some people li e w ith on a day to day basis. The fact that so main people ha e died in the sen ice to our country is a cause to be humble. We are so lucky that they w ere w illing to sacrifice their li es so that we could enjoy the freedom that is so e ident in our countn today To take these liberties and freedoms for granted is so easy to do. But. by doing so w e stand to lose those ery freedoms w e hold dear. When my son left for Australia in duly of 20(H), we watched him got on the plane, w e w andered around the airport freely, I idootaped the plane going out to get on the runw ay and the takeoff. We w ere free to do this. When w e w out to pick hint up in July of 2002, w e had to w ait in the lobby by the baggage pickup. We Here w e tire one 1 y low lut 1 t could see him in the terminal coming dow n the escalator This was probably the only change that directly felt by the e ents of September 1 1 Increased airport security, w e are more and more limited in our freedoms as people cross one line and then another In order to keep our nation safe, w e lm e been forced to gi e up some of our liberities. find these circumstances to be ery sad, but I'm not sure 0 1 what the better way is. Indirectly or directly w e w ere all effected by these tragic e cats that took place in our nation. Wliat hae we learned from it? The increase in kindness and patriotism w ent on for aw hile, but do w e still feel it today ? Ha e w e incorporated it into our h es? Do w e feel a lump in our throat and do w e get a tear as our flag is raised or as it goes by in a parade. I ha e a w ho w as a patriot w hen being a patriot w asn't cool ( )ne time on a family cruise, three y ears before the attacks, on international night they brought in flags from arious nations and play ed the anthem from that country When our flag was brought in carried by our cool waiter from Jamaica, tlie whole diningroom was filled w ith tears of patriotism That the flag of our nation can and does eoke such emotion is a powerful tool If all of us could loe does then merica would grow belter, and sene in America as this w ith each and passing day. stronger bigger If w e but try an act of kindness each day, if w e treat those around us just a little better, if we make our world a brighter place, then the tragedies of September w ill not hae been in ain. We will ha e learned and w e w ill hae w alked taller because of them sister-in-la- w sister-in-la- w 1 1 Id |
