During the Layton City Improvement Association monthly meeting Tuesday night Linelle Rose, beautification chairman, described a project which will be undertaken by 900 young people of the Layton Stake. LDS STAKE officials had contacted the group looking for a project. The suggestion was for the youth to go door to door taking orders for trees which will help beautify Lay-to- n and boost the Million Trees for a Million People program endorsed by Gov. Calvin Rampton. As well as taking orders, the young salesmen may help determine how many trees have been planted this year by asking residents and recording the information. Valley Nursery was mentioned as the supplier because it gives a discount on trees which are purchased for planting under the statewide beautification effort. JAY WILLEY, chairman of LCIA, told the group that plans are progressing on the painting of the water tank on Highway 89 and Oakhills Dr. The citys name will be painted on the south side of the tank in red, white and blue letters. The art department at Layton High School will furnish templates for the letters shortly after school begins. Joseph Antista, LCIA photographer, was commended Chairman Willey and by Mayor Glen Shields for the photographs he took duringn the ceremonies in which Lay-towas designated a bicentennial community. They were very pleased with the results and agreed to buy all of the prints. THE GROUP discussed with Mr. Antista which improvement projects should be photographed for a slide presentation needed for the Utah Community Progress competition. It was agreed that he, Linelle Rose, Jean Jensen and Jay Dansie would meet to discuss and decide which will be featured. The lack of maintenance at the farm labor housing north of N. Layton Jr. High was discussed and it was noted that the situation has improved.
