Show WEEKLY REFLEX-D- A VIS NEWS JOURNAL, AUGUST 5, 1976 Is there life out there? THAT QUESTION has fas- cinated mankind since the earliest beginnings of in- telligent life on Earth. Are we alone in this vast universe or is someone else out there, or even something that resembles life as we know it? United States scientists will take a giant step toward answering these questions when two Viking spacecraft land this summer on the surface of Mars the planet judged most likely in olir solar system to possess some semblance of life. IF WE were to find life on Mars, or any other planet for that matter, then it will have staggering implications to science and our whole Dr. philosophy of life, Michael B. McElroy, Harvard University astrophysicist, said. The existence of Martian life would be the first bit of hard evidence that says such a process can really take place on another planet, said Dr. Harold P. Klein from the FREE LESSONS Program. However, Dr. Palmatier says magic is extremely effective in boosting the selfesteem and performance of both teachers and students. MAGIC CAN be very helpful for a teacher who must compete with media and other powerful outside distractions, he says. It is an effective gimmick for attracting the students attention and engaging their minds. In addition, he says an occasional magic stunt helps to humanize the teacher and build his rapport with students and thereby boosts his morale and self-imag- e. Viking is going to Mars to study the planet, to develop an understanding of the environment of Mars as best we can with the limited payload that we have so that we can see whats happening to another planet, Dr. Richard S. Young of NASA said. This will enable us to get at some of the fundamentals of our COULD MARS have been a very wet planet? Was life abundant in those days?
