Show Page Four - The Pyramid - January 20, 1999 Lady Badgers triumphant after weekend games with SLCC, UVSC by Ken Beazer Common belief coaches is the SWAC among Lady Badgers can beat anybody on their home court. Now. after securing impressive road victories over seventh ranked, SLCC, and previously ranked. UVSC, on consecutive nights. Snow College is not just a good home team anymore. ihe two victories last weekend, give Coach Jamie White's team a 2 SWAC record, and locks them in a tie for second place with Dixie College, setting up an epic showdown with the Lady Rebels this Friday in St. George. You would have never guessed Snow was a decided underdog against SLCC. The NJCAAs seventh ranked team was coming off a major road coup against UVSC the previous week and was labeled, by many, as the most talented SWAC team. Regardless, it was the Lady Badgers who played with the confidence of a contender, leading throughout the game, on their victory over the way to a 79-7- 1 Bruins. Lady The Lady Badgers were in control of the game from the start. Trailing by four points after six minutes of play, the Lady Badgers forged into the lead that was never relinquished. Although SLCC put together several scoring runs, they never were able to break through and grab the lead. Every time SLCC made a charge, someone would step up for Snow and make a play to regain momentum and EPHRAIM-- - 6-- frustrate the Lady Bruins. Amber Russell, Melissa Brae-ggand Nicole Paul took care of the scoring, burning SLCCs defense for 20. 19, and 15 points respectively. However, it may have been the inside play of Angie Hawkins. Erionda Benmon and Julie Bellamy that contributed most to the win. While Snow's three scorers were lighting up SLCCs defense, Hawkins, Bennion and Bellamy were putting the defensive clamps on SLCCs Ashley Miller, who has been nothing short of dominant so far this season. With Miller rendered ineffective, most of the night, the Lady Bruin's offensive was indeterminate, at times, appearing confused. The win over SLCC was the third in a row for Snow over the Lady Bruins, and gave them plenty of confidence for their next game against UVSC. Though Snow has recorded several home victories over UVSC in the past, few could remember the last time a Lady Badger team was able to secure a conference victory in Orem. The Lady Badgers ignored history and took advantage of UVSCs inability to hit consistently from the outside, building leads early in several double-dig- it the game.
