For a while, I was a "fly on thfc wall" at the Dixie Rotary Bowl football game in St. George last weekend where Snow College thumped Dixie College 40-2A friend from that neck of the woods scored some tickets on the 4th row in the reserved chair seats on the 50 yard line. They were terrific seats for the game and great for watching show. the half-tim- e Half-tim- e shows always play to the home team side where renowned Sky View High School marching band from Cache County performed, as did the Badgerettes and Dixies drill team. The only problem with these great seats in Hansen Stadium was that we were on the home team side smack dab in the middle of die hard Dixie Rebel fans. We took a very low profile attitude to begin with as the game started. Because of that we were able to hear some comments made about "those Snow college fans" across the field. The lady sitting next to me said to her husband, It looks like Snow has a pretty good crowd here. But I thought theyd have more, since Snow is as close as it is." The husband sniffed with his response, "Thats probably the whole town sitting over there. I kept quiet. I had already waved to several Snow fans who had infiltrated the Dixie side stands. In the early going, other comments were made that gave the impression that the opponent and fans from that unpopulated area to the north were somehow a little less than 0. Sanpete County hosts Statehood Day Celebration worthy of being there in the big bowl game. Snow had, after all, been beaten by Dixie at their own homecoming game in Ephraim, by one point. Dear Editor, It is my understanding that a movement is on, by some residents who travel the highway between Sanpete and Juab County, to have die speed limit raised to 65 miles per hour. At the present time, thejimit is 55 from Pigeon Callow to Nephi. It is at 65 milfejouth and north of this junction through Mt. Pleasant and Manti. As one realizes, very few drivers adhere to these limits. If you want the road to yourself, drive at the posted speed, many other drivers will pass at speeds estimated to be 10 to 20 miles over the limit set for safe driving. The near tragedy of last week brings into focus the need for a change in the habits of those who travel this route. Traveling at 55 miles per hour will cover 27.5 miles in 30 minutes, 13.75 miles in 15 minutes or .9 miles per minute. At 60 miles per hour, 30 miles will be covered in 30 min- utes, 15 miles in 15 minutes, or 1 mile per minute. At 65, 32.5 miles will be covered in 30 minutes, 16.25 miles in 15 minutes, or 1.08 miles per minute. If a rate of 55 is maintained a distance of 15 miles from Fountain Green to Nephi will be covered in 16.66 minutes. If a rate of 60 miles the distance would be MT. Salt Creek Canyon consists of many turns, hills and other hazards which are accidents just waiting to happen. As stated too many have already given their lives to excessive speeds, selfishness and just the plain old feeling "I must be in front of all traffic, I cannot follow, especially if the car ahead is driving the posted rate." Granted, something should be done in the canyon to widen he road. Several years ago, this project was initiated, evidence of this can be observed in the canf yon.
