PLEASAN- T- North Sanpete Lady 'Hawks Volleyball varsity team beat Delta 2 and 15-5 JV lost to Delta, and The sophomore team struggled to a victory 15-and clinched it with a 1 win. The freshmen lost and Tawnya Crumb had ten kills, Heathei Pyper had 32 assists, and Rebecca Cook had 13 serves. The next games for the team are Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Hurricane and Wednesday, Oct. 6, Wasatch at North Sanpete. 15-1- Badgers slaughter Arizona 12-1- 9. 10-1- 5. 8, by Gary Chidester EPHRAIM- - The Snow College Badgers caused early turnovers against Eastern Arizonas Gila Monster and quickly turned them into points on their way to a win. Joe Borich got things started when he connected with Rob Thomas on a pass play in the first quarter. Gary Perkins added to the score just a minute and a half later when he went in from ten yards out to give the 69-- 7 30-ya- rd Badgers a 15-- 0 lead. Everyone got into the act as Borich connected on five touchdown passes to five different receivers. Jared Ingersoll, Darren Nawahine, Lester Falatea and Eric Thompson were also on the receiving end of Borich s touchdown passes. Perkins added another touchdown run and Keli Tohara and Brad" Hurst also punched it in for the Badgers. Eastern got their only score of the game when Utahn Thad Nalder threw 55 yards to William Rhodes with 1:57 left in the 2-- game. Coach Paul Tidwell said: "I think this will help us more than we even think. We know Eastern is no where near as good a team as Ricks, but it gives us confidence that we can score and play well." The Badgers play Friday night in Rexburg against the number one teanv in the nation, the Ricks Vikings. Lady Badgers share wins with UVCC by Gary Chidester OREM The Lady Bagders traveled to Utah Valley State College Thursday to play their second regular season match. Snow College came home with their record evened at one win and one loss after losing to the Lady Wolverines 15-and "I knew we could get the first game," said head Coach JoAnn Jeppson. "I didnt think UVSC would be ready for us. They play with so much confidence at home." Snow wasnt ready for the comeback UVSC made after being beaten in the first game. The Lady Badgers match up very welf against Utah Valley and the differences came doWn to a serving advantage for the Lady Wolverines. Snow College will continue on the road for the next week against CSI and Ricks College on Friday and Saturday. The Hawks played Richfield and Delta in the round robin competition. The Hawks had split with Richfield in their two duel matches during league play and beaten Delta in their only meeting two weeks ago. Competing for North Sanpete were: Jamie Cox, first singles; Wendi Cox, second singles; Franki Bailey, third singles; Allynne Ericksen and Shelley Dyches, first doubles and Tracey Ericksen and Elizabeth Hall, second doubles. Jaiilie defeated Delta in her first match Jamie met Michell Harker, who had defeated her twice in league play, and beat her She and won the region championship in first singles. Wendi Cox lost to Delta and Playing an excellent game, she was also defeated by Richfield, taking third in second singles. Franki Bailey lost a close match to Delta and Known for her ability to come from behind, she beat Richfield and 4 in third singles. With that win, North Sanpete won the region title. Allynne and Shelley, first doubles, entered the tournament s with a 1 record. With some excellent volleys by Allynne and accurate ground strokes by Shelley, they beat Delta and That Set up a rematch against Richfield, who beat them earjier in the month, for the region title. They won 5 M- 6-- 1, 6-- 3, Among the honored guests present were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Peyton, State Commander, VFW, and Clarence Peterson, Commander, District 6, Department of Utah. for their service to the community were: Joy Lyons, Ephraim; Pam Rigby, Fairview; Kathy Shepherd, Fountain Green; John Cox and Lee Nelson, Manti; Roger Bailey, Moroni; and Pam and Lynn, Larsen, Mt. Pleasant. . MT. PLEASAN- T- Cross country teams from North Sanpete High School and Wasatch Academy traveled to North Sevier High School on Sept. 22 for a meet with seven other schools. When final scores were tallied, the Hawks boys were rowly defeated by Beaver, (In cross country, low scores win.) Runners from the two schools dominated the competition on the flat, but challenging, three-mil- e course and accounted for 10 of the top 1 1 finishers. The Hawks were again paced senior Cameron Winters, who by took second place honors for the 35-2- 4. The Senior team, coached by Layne Thompson and Kim Bangerter beat the Junior team 28 to 8 with the juniors scoring their only points, a touchdown and conversion, in the last three seconds of the Powder Puff football game during North Sanpetes Homecoming last week. two-poi- nt f ss 6-- 1, 6-- 2. 6-- 2, 7-- 5. Freshman Sarah Beardall led the team with a twenty-fourt- h place finish at 27:00, followed by teammates Lisa Wright, Daisy Lamb and Liz Eicher. Wasatch continued to improve by taking a solid sixth place in the boys teams, ahead of Grand County and Millard. The Tigers were paced by seniors Scott Gee and Philip Dolan, who ran to twentieth and twenty-firplaces, respectively. Teammates Tom Vincent, Grant Wilson and Mike Hlavaty continue to improve as the season y reaches the point. PLEASAN- T- Wasatch Academy and Manti High School tied for first place at the Division Two Region tennis tournament held at Snow College and Manti. Wasatchs Jill Clark, first singles, defeated South Sevier, Gunnison, then competed against Manti for the championship, Jill went on to winning take third place at State.
