THESE WORDS were the theme for the 15th annual Layton High School Commencement exercises held Friday, May 25 in the high school auditorium. Julia Christmas introduced the theme to the graduating class. Five student speak- ers reflected on high school memories and accomplishments and challenged their classmates to transcend themselves and begin to live. Suzanne Murdock entitled her speech Footprints. Jill Yonce spoke of Reflections of Time. Cornerstones was the central theme of Tim D. Eccleston's graduation speech. Susan Burke called her talk Color by Number. The final speaker, Carlos Salazar, followed Thoreaus theme by discussing The Ultimate. PAUL C. Smith, Layton high school principal, presented the graduating class to Gayle Stevenson, assistant superintendent and Roger Glines, clerk, Davis County School District. Both men gave brief responses before conferring diplomas to 402 graduating seniors. Music for the commencement program was provided by the Layton High String Orchestra, the Senior Acappella Choir and Carina Luke. A BUFFET supper sponsored by the PTSA was held for graduates and their parents in the school cafeteria following the program. Layton High School Class of 1984 will be remembered for many outstanding academic accomplishments including three appointments to military academies, several major scholarships to local col-leg- es and universities, many academic awards and honors and 66 general scholarships, 19 stu Gar-bet- Ipakt-chia- n, WORLD'S FAIR Spring is a wonderful time of year. We begin to break out of the dismal grip of winter and feel alive again. We also almost always rush the season and indulge ourselves a little carelessly. The children will want to go out too early, bikes and skates will come out of the garage; it will seem warm enough for a barbecue, and some colds and flu will still linger. jfks.
