Foundation analysts attribute the high percentage of government employment in Utah to the large number of Federal employees in the stationed state and the high proportion of employment in education. The announcement came at the recent Vocational Conference held at Utah State University after a committee of vocational agriculture teachers from over the state had carefully evaluated the applications from top chapters in the state competing in the National Chapter Award Program. Utah, with an FFA membership of 3,993 is eligible to submit the applications of the 4 top chapters for national recognition. The chapters this year who will represent Utah nationally are: First place Millard Eagle; Second, Bear River; Third, Springville; and Fourth, Grantsville. from Applications these chapters have been submitted to the Western Regional Office in Denver and it is hoped locally that a National Gold Emblem will be forthcoming. The Millard Eagle Chapter has consistently ranked in the top two or three in the state with Bear River who is also extremely strong in FFA activities. Reports submitted for National Chapter Awards must be approved by the State advisor and must be ranked in the order judged by the State Association so it is an advantage to be ranked Number One as national competition is entered. r & y( Friday, August 84631 . i 1 t tah Millard County Progress, Fillmore, Millard FFA 10, 000 persons. larly, nearly 61 all state and local workers in Utah were employed in education, compared with 49 for the nation as a w hole. Over the past ten years, state and local employment in Utah has been rising somewhat faster than that of the nation as a whole. I he Foundation report shows that between 1966 and 1976 state and local employment in Utah climbed bv 48 compared with 41 throughout the nation, in the case of state government employment only, the in increase was 94 $55,843,000. On an this annual basis, would monthly outlay translate into a total salary expenditure of $670 million a year. The Foundation hastens to point out that this outlay excludes amounts for most employee fringe benefits such as insurance, social retirement, security, nfm.P.T ment, insurance, compensation, etc. ( Education is still the state and local activity government requiring the largest number of employees in Utah. of Health The Utah State Division of Health docs not recognize water hauling as an acceptable permanent method for culinary water distribution. However, in certain situations this may be necessary as a temporary means for providing culinary water to a given area. The following guidelines have been developed to inform both the transporter and the- consumer of acceptable unitary procedures for watcr hauling. Water hauling opera- lions serving more than 50 people or providing water service to the public arc subject to the review and approval of the Utah State of Health. Division Accordingly, plans for all water hauling operations must be submitted and approved prior to the hauling operation. The Uveal health authority having jurisdiction must also be notified of the proposal. Haulers may be required to keep records of their operations and submit Periodically w atcr to samples health authorities for bacterio-logiand chemical analysis. Analysis of such samples will be of free performed in Division the charge of Health Laboratory. c |
