This was an open meeting designed to discuss drugs openly, and to establish a basis for communication among people with varying attitudes toward drugs. During my two years In Fillmore I have been forced to acknowltgde an enormous gap between young ami old, parent and child, and I have spent countless hours trying, like you, to sort out and deal with emotional catastrophes among both adults and children, resulting from such communication gaps. I had asked one user of marl- - A words regarding Iranulllzers -but failed) then I spoke about the definition of drugs, medically, any chemical taken Into the body to effect the stale of mind. (I also mentioned that I was a teetotaler, and alwaya had been, of pot, speed, LSD, and alcohol.) In order to get to point where we could dlsucss specific In a attitudes meaningful rational, communicative way, I laid down three guidelines and asked one question: Given: (1) That all human beings have feelings from time to time that they wish tochsnge -e. g. depression, boredom, anxiety, fear, anger, resentment, etc. (2) That tf a drug causes physical harm to the body, accidents, or physical harm to others e.g. the poverty-stricke- n alcoholic whose children euffer or contribute to addiction, that drug Is abused. 93) That the vast majority of drug, tobacco, or alcohol users use these drugs only In moderation.
