Show The Salt Lake Tribune TELEVISION c7 Tuesday, June13, 2000 Cliché-Infested Drama ‘Young Americans’ Likely Won’t Live to See Old Age; SLC Part ofPBS Experiment The WB has advertised “Young Americans”as a coming-of-age drama where blue blood clashes with the bluecollar. And straddling the borderline between the twofactions is Will Krudski (Rodney Scott), a local ——boyonseholarshipAcademy, an ivy-covered school ina small New England town. Krudski (a blue-collar nameif ever there was one) is outofhis element. His motheris sympathetic, but Krudski’s hard-bitten father is sure the son will fail. What Krudskiseeks is to be more like his roomie, the charming Scout Calhoun (Mark Famiglietti). Bella Banks (Kate Bosworth) is the lovely local girl who was broughtup by her overprotective father. He knows Rawley guys are only after one thing, something to dowith social sciences. “Young Americans,” which premieres today at 8 p.m. on Ch. 30 (KUWB), would be worth taking an hour of one’stelevision viewThe showis so cliché-ridden it’s laughable, and secondly, the leads are so uninteresting that they cannot overcomethe clichés. “Young Americans”is billed as the second part ofThe WB summerstrategy (which showsall the promise ofCuster’s Little Big Horn battle plans). The network’s attempt for a younger audiences was the short-lived “D.C,” which lasted long enough to air four of its scheduled eightepisodes. 7:00 7:30 day nights?
