| Show VISIT TO THE MINES resist last saturday pres E AV dunn of the commercial club appointed a committee to visit the graphite mines in the canyon cast of 0 perry for or the purpose or of investigating the property with a view or of undine out mote moie fully as to the nature of the deposit 1 and nd the the intentions of the company monday tho the committee made the trip anti and have submitted the following report brigham city utah ata h feb 1 19 1910 10 pros pres E W dunn box elder commercial club brigham city utah dear sir As a committee appointed saturday jan to visit and inspect t the he graphite mines in three mile alile creek canyon we beg leave to submit the following report which is an impartial statement of what we saw monday forenoon frank W Fis fishburn liburn N E J francis merrell and victor dictor E madsen eidsen Mid sen drove iu in a bob sleigh down to perry where they were joined by W W cannon arid and E perry ol of the he mining company the party then drove up into the canyon to the mine the deposit is situated about tso miles from the county road and crops out of the hill side in great quantities it will be remembered that the company which is developing the cla claim illi shipped a car load of the material to salt lake city last autumn for the purpose purpose or of having it assayed tile test lei showing between 70 and 80 per cent pure graphite I 1 besides cutting down the hill the company has sunk a shaft 0 30 0 feet deep arid and mr air cannon the mining expert of the company stated that the material was good all the way down revealing an immense quantity of tile the virgin ore or clay whatever liate ver it is called tile the gentleman also stated that the company has another claim farther up tip the canyon where the deposit is even more abundant in speaking of the purity of the graphite mr cannon stated that the lowest test made on oil their samples was wag far ahead of the best test made on the material used by the dixon company one of the largest users and producers of graphite in the united states samples have also been shipped to the faber pencil company but as yet no returns have been received letters from prominent graphite users in london england have been received asking for samples which have been forwarded the company has acquired acres of mountain land and it appears that graphite droppings crop pings can be found all along the canyon the intention is according to mr cannons statement to erect a plant near the rall rail road siding at perry and milli mill the product making it into paint etc the mineral red and ulli whiting ting necessary as the other ingredients in the manufacture of paint will le be shipped from the companas comp anys claims near Pay utah the gentleman stated that many inducements had been offered offlie d tile the company to build its factory at payson but as graphite is used in greater quantities in paint making than ihan mineral red or whiting the decision had been reached to locate here as near the graphite deposit as possible when the plant gets in fit operation the company expects to turn out all ic kinds I 1 lid i of paints as well as varnish I 1 the graphite in its natural condition Is woith from 2 12 1 2 to 12 cents per pound at present plesent au an effort is being I 1 in made a d e to dispose of a batch of stock to the a moil lit of joubort JOu which is needed toi for the purpose or of erecting the plant the company I 1 is capitalized for and it is known as tile the ciomber mining ning adf and milling company submitted I 1 frank W ris fishburn liburn N E J francis merrell |
