A machine has recently come to my notice which I am sure will soon be used considerably by the farmers of th west, especially those engaged in growing dry farm alfalfa, either for hay or S(im. This machine is called the Emerson Alfalfa Renovator. In other words it is a spike toothed disc The spikes arc in the simp of harrow har-row teeth with the exception that they arc slightly curved to give the wheel which twenty of them form, a slight disc. The machine has twelve of these wheals making 240 spikes. Each individual in-dividual spike is bolted on so that if one is broken another can be readily put on. It works in the same manner man-ner as does a regular disc and1 so can be made to cut cithr deep or shallow. shal-low. Two good horses will pull the, machine readily. The advantage which this machine has over the ordinary disc is that it pulverizes the ground much better, thus forming a better mulch for the H conservation of moisture. It tears up H all shallow rooted plants better ymm H docs the disc, thus destroying June H or Cheat grass more effectively. It 'H does not cut off the roots of alfalfa H as docs the disc, 'but spiits the H crowns and causes the alfalfa to H apraaP and thus thicken the stand. H The only disadvantage which it has H is that ft is a little h.cavicr pullfng H than is the ordinary disc, but, when H wo consider that going over the field H once with the Alfalfa Renovator does H as thorough work as going over the H field three times with the ordinary H disc a great deal of labor and time is H saved by using this machine. Not H only this, but more moisture is con- H served, no alfalfa roots cut oil or dc- H strayed and all June grass and othur H shallow rooted weeds, arc killed, H which is quite a consideration. H A cut of this Alfalfa Renovator ac- H companies this article. It is sold in M this state by the Millcr-Cahoon Co., M Murray, Utah.-J, C. IIOGENSQtf. flR Insist on having the '"Emerson".
