JONES. w j Answered by Prof. E. G. Titus; He The porcupines belong to the same group of animals as do the mice, rats; i squirrels, rabbitd, etc. ? i The only fcasablc- remedy we can" suggest for the poisoning of porcri-' , pined would be to poison vegetables cut up, such as carrots, cabbage or"h g potatoes with strychnine or some . strong arsenical solution containing j enough sugar to somewhat disguise ; the tastc The solution used forkill-ing forkill-ing mice would doubtless be of considerable con-siderable value. It is as follows: Strychnia sulphate, i ounce; borax, y ounce; 14 pound sugar; water, 2 qts. Dissolve the strychnine in the- boiling water and add the borax and sugar. These latttosubstanccs are to prevent 1 moulding and to disguise the taste. I Let the pieces of vegetables soak in ' 1 this for a few hours and then place H them around the bases of the trees that arc being injured. Care should be taken that other small animals that ' might eat the vegetables ibe kept awjiy while the poison is being used, , f " |
