Show THE DESERET FARMER A staunch and tried friend of the Dcscrct Farmer called on the editor last week, and frankly stated that in his opinion the Descrct Farmer was not realizing its whole opportunity. I He complimented the editorial and typographical appearance of the Farmer but 'felt that we omitted mention of many agricultural items that would be of interest to our readers. read-ers. And frankly, we confess that this' charge is true. Wo arc struggling strug-gling along in our efforts for the upbuilding up-building of agriculture in this state and sometimes we feel that the "seed is being -cast up'on stony ground." There arc thousands of good warm supporters of this paper but there arc other thousands' who fail to sec the need of "book learning" and who give no moral or financi?.' support. Then too we must appreciate, the fact that in Utah homes there arc a great many papers and magazines I in addition to the big city daily there is the country paper. Then the ilong list of church -magazines one for each organization and the con-1 con-1 stant appeals for support for these makes the burden in the ordinary home rather irksome. Despite aU these obstacles in our path, wc have weathered five years of storm, winning win-ning fiends and making enemies. j We arc trying to dignify and make attractive farm homes and farm life and if we fail in your ideal of what a I good farm paper should be, wc ask jj leniency trusting that when all the E fr -tors entering into the details of m making a farm journal are taken into Ejj account you will -at least ascribe to I us honesty of purpose. |
