| Show DEATH OF W L N ALLEN the unexpected death of elder william land allen alien bishop ot of the twenty first ward occurred ut at the family rt silence no P cstreet at 9 november 16 after a very brief ill off the immediate bause ot of death was waa an unusually severe alback of chronic asthma which suddenly aud denly developed a couple of days ago though as late as aa yesterday elder allen alien was wai moving about his house without mani testing soy any sl diun i agn that his hia course coulee on earth was to be out cut short abort so BO soon th the e deceased was an old and highly respected resident of this city aud and many friends will deplore toe the fact ot of lifis bis death he was the son BOD of thomas and mary allen alien and was born may 22 1825 at on 00 hull england his mother bied when he was but seventeen old leaving him in the care of susan dusan nah land a widow and great gr grand and aunt he was baptized october 27 1848 and ordained to the office of in november of the tiame year he was ordained an elder january 21 1849 and presided over the hull branch of the church from march 6 1861 1851 to 1853 at which time he jen jelt hie hib native laud far the united states stales crossing the ocean on the steamship ellen maria he arrived in salt lake city october 12 1853 he was ordained orda loeu a seventy the year following he b built u lit the it farat rat house bouse I 1 in a the awen ty first ward and has ever been oneri 4 leading citizens he figured conspicuously in the and echo canyon wars and when the military mili tury history of utah shall be fully written he will occupy a prominent place in it acted as second counselor to bishop sharp for twenty three years and later held a similar office under andrew burt bishop of the twenty first wari whom he succeeded october 26 25 1883 he has also alio held positions ot of civil trust with capability and honor in his death the people of his ward lose jose a wise counselor a staunch friend anu and earnest citizen he leaves a wife and seven children to mourn his hia departure |
