Show Hunter bags famous Big Foot Sleep tight tonight, Utah. hearing of the fear created by the Big Foot episode, I decided to rid our state of the creature whose only purpose was to frighten After people and pollute with its foul smell. Last week, Utahs two big I the air tracked feet into a wilderness area, so dense was the area that I became lost when I found the Big Foot numbering three by count. Being a skillful hunter I shot each beast with one bullet, as the male, a Muscho Bull, lay dieing it gasped out in mumbo-jumb- o language, that I had wipedout the 1st of the great beast and as proof of my feat I offer 3 fired 0.6 cartriges and thats more proof than has been offered that such an animal exists. Any additional reports of Big Foot can now be con- sidered a hoax. What a shame that Utah Fish and Game did not sell hunting permits at $1,000.00 each to hunt Big Foot. McCarty Executive Secretary Utah Education Association A Utah youngster from an urban area visited relatives in the country for several weeks, and he had great difficulty adjusting to the rural food that was set before him at the table. He just wasnt used to all that milk, meat, vegetables, home-bake- d whole wheat bread and cereal. Ibis lad was used to sweet drinks, candy bars and all the junk foods he could find at the store. That boy is one of thousands of young people who, despite the fact that their families can afford for them toeat well, dont. It isnt because they dont learn about nutrition in their health classes at school. Many lessons learned well at school are quickly forgotten when a student is continually exposed to conflicting experiences elsewhere. If Jimmy is served a sweet roll and a bottle of pop for lunch at home, thats a signal to him that hes had a nutritious meal. Children learn most of their lessons about nutrition at home from the meals they eat at the family table. That means the parent who makes the decisions on meals and is around to supervise the familys snacking has a responsibility. for preparing meals that include nutritional balance, and to be a good model for eating habits. Mom cant very well chomp on chocolates and deny them to her children on the grounds that it would be healthier for them to munch carrot sticks. If Dad swigs three bottles of pop after dinner, he shouldnt be surprised to see the kids picking up the habit. Sweets are a part of todays society. Dentists and other persons in the health professions criticize overuse of sugar-loade- d foods. Some suggest that families permit the kids to eat sweets one evening of the week followed by vigorous tooth brushing. Good eating habits are learned largely in the home, and the parents who recognize this are likely to have robust I youngsters. jjs responsibility ARE MERE I am vitally concerned that many people who are enjoying the fruits of free enterprise are not aware of the fact that these benefits come because of the efforts of millions of Americans and not because of one group or another or because of laws passed in Washington. A survey of 5,000 high school seniors throughout the United States produced some rather startling facts over off be motive the killed can believed that sixty percent profit without hurting the American system; fifty-fiv- e percent think the best way to improve our standard of living is not by workers producing more but giving workers more wages; and sixty percent think employees get too little and owners get too much of the profits of the company. Obviously young people need to be shown that the highest standard of living in the world has resulted from our personal enterprise system under which every person has the right to work and succeed in his chosen vocation in direct proportion to his ability and efforts. We have all heard, over and over again, what is wrong with America. But let me tell you what is right about America. Im tired of hearing people tell me you cant depend on people anymore the. way you used to. Im tired of people telling me workers dont measure up the way they once did. I know there are exceptions, but the bulk of the people are meeting the responsibilities every day. Its time they begin to have respect for the other people who make a contribution to keeping the total plant operating at a high rate. I find all across America industries looking for eager qualified individuals who will put their shoulders Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held on March 25, 1980, at 6 p.m. at the Roy City Municipal Building, 5715 South 2200 West, to consider a proposed ordinance to amend Roy City Zoning Ordinance to alter the distance so that no animals or fowl shall be kept or maintained closer than 20 feet (instead of 40) from any dwelling on the same lot and not closer than 75 feet (same as current ordinance) from any dwelling on an adjacent lot. Said proposed ordinance also to provide that any barn, stable, coop, pen, corral or structure (instead of enclosure) for the housing or keeping of animals or fowl shall be kept, constructed or maintained not less than 75 feet (instead of 100) from a public street. All interested persons are invited to attend. Laurel M. Smith Assistant City Recorder BY RICK KINNER8LEY Burn Treatment ' Don't Go Out Without It. It is estimated that some 2 million Americans suffer from burns each year. 75,000 of these bums are severe enough to send the victim to the hospital. Another 10,000 die as 4a1"result of burns.' Bum injuries are, in fact, so common that an entire establishment of bum treatment experts, such as those at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, are engaged in hum research. More than 180 hospitals throughout the nation have bum centers and according to U.S. News & World Report there are more than 1,700 beds now available for the victims. One breakthrough in the treatment of pain, as reported recently in the Readers Digest from the News Bulletin of Medical World News, is a painkiller. According to the report the painkiller is "claimed to be as effective as morphine but not addictive." The drug is called zomepriac sodium and was tested on some 3200 patients by 200 doctors. The results of the study sound something like a commercial. For example, zomepriac has been shown to be superior in the relief of pain when compared to the normal dosage of asprin. Highly sophisticated advancement in the removal of dead tissue as the result of bums and replacement with skin grafts and other dressings have improved the recovery for victims. The use of hemostatic scalpels which employ a highpowered laser are reducing blood loss during dead skin removal operations. A group of "biomechanics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are actually collaborating in the development of artificial skin. In addition to the new drugs being used to reduce the extreme pain from bums, hypnosis is also helping patients endure their injuries and the treatments used to correct disfigurement, as well as the pain during rehabilitation of burned physical parts. Experts, such as those here in Utah, are moving forward in this field with new inspiration. Breakthroughs are coming every day which improve the chances of survival and rehabilitation to nothing less than a normal existence. To those involved with burn treatment a technological window is opening which they feel is revealing new ihethods and procedures that will alter the lifestyle of bum victims.
