Show OBITUARY MUSSER samuel white musser son eon of amos milton and mary white musser was burn born at meadow creek kM millard illard county utah territory on sunday evening the ath day of february 1866 and he died at the home of his parents in the first ward this city on 0 n sunday S u n cut orning morning in at june 2 jtb 1887 18 wa which would make him 21 years 4 months and 22 days old at the time of his death his sudden demise was caused by hemorrhage of the by a cough winch which he has not been albo al together altogether iree from for some two years having contracted it while on hi bi late german mission he started on this mission tuesday april ath 1884 and returned reaching this city tuesday september ath 1886 his deep y sorrowing parents were at his bed bedside side flay aay and night during his brief ill ness which lasted but six days the funeral services over his remains were held in the first ward meetinghouse meeting house at 11 a in on the nit the large jarge hall including the aisles was densely packed with it h kind friends and relatives the schoolhouse annex was also well filled while a good many were forced to remain outside president angus M cannon and elders arthur stayner john nichol son and elias morris morns and bishops L D i gung frederick kesler and aad joseph warburton arburton made very eulogistic consoling g and impressive remarks the DESERET NEWS ot that day said of samuel athe the deceased was a noble and model youth u th from early boyhood he be devoted rm himself self to the performance of his duty he was not only a young man of promise from a moral standpoint but was also endowed with more than ordinary mental capacity As is well known the deceased young elder lately returned froni from a mission to germany which he faithfully performed quite recently he was set apart to act as a home missionary in the salt lake stake of zion and filed his first appointment in that capacity a week ago last sunday he had been given another for last sabbath bab bath but the call from the lord to labor in another sphere prevented his fillin filling it moved his remains were followed to their resting p place liace in the city cemetery by a large rge cortege consisting of some 45 vehicles while a number walked to the graveyard to be present at aith t h last solemn rites it was estimated that 25 more vehicles could have been filled by those desiring to go to the cemetery his brothers and half brothers affectionately acted acted as pallbearers pall bearers at the inter ment that matchless funeral blymn the rhe resu Res action day was sung by t the be choir after crvich wh which the grounds were consecrated and the grave was closed and covered with boquete boquet of flowers the contributions of choice flowers flow ers by loving hearts and hands were very profuse affa beautiful they were made up in the form of the cross harp wreath stars pillow boquete bo etc the harp was the gift of the young ladies of the first ward choir most of whom attended the funeral dressed in white the large flowery pillow was a loving tribute from three cousin sis sisters samuel white musser was in every sense a clean and upright young man his unselfishness was oftentimes exhibited in in his love for all his fathers children whom he esteemed alike with brotherly affection und interest soon after ins his return from germany he said to his father 1 I wish I 1 had bad as many more bi others and sisters 1 I would gladly help to clothe teed feed and edu cate care them flexas he was a strict observer of the word of wisdom and was humble prayerful Xray prayerful erful tractable and earnestly devote devoted to his parents whose counsels he took a pride in observing his letters from germany benian to his father during his in ye the utah peni tertiary tent iary were very touching and assuring to his sister he wrote 1 I am so glad that lather went to the penitentiary so willingly tor for his conscientious convictions this to me is a strong proof roof of his in te teg rity iq ty 11 I 1 baui samuel el was naturally bright promising and amiable having attended the provo academy and the deseret university he w was as pretty well advanced in lastic attainments and while it will be exceed angly hard for his parents to wholly recover from the great loss lobs sustained by his early demise there can be no doubt but what samuel white musser is infinitely better 0 off ff and in circumstances to perform a much greater and more effective work in behalf of relatives and others than if he had remained on this side A great many have said that he seemed too good for this world gom corn |
