CAMPKIESEL I spent a delightful evening with my old son last week at Camp Kiesel, which is a Boy Scout camp on the slopes of Monte Cristo Mountain. Camp Kiesel is a product of the Lake Bonneville Council of the Boy Scouts of America, which covers the territory from Layton tot he Idaho border for scouting. The twenty-fiv- e acre camp is used by boys from eight to 18 years old from Cub Scouts to Explorer Scouts. The Scout camp came into being in the early 1920s on land that was donated by Wilhemine Kiesel Sherman, in the name of her father, Fredrick John Kiesel of Ogden. S. Dilworth Young, of LDS Church fame, was Scout Executive at the time, and was instrumental in getting a lot of donated money and labor to build the facilities. Our group was last to have dinner in the lodge dining hall. This week-en- d h will mark the beginning of a renovating project to build a bigger and better lodge, with better facilities. A new building is being furnished by Intermountain Precision Built Homes of Ogden, and will be erected and furnished with aid from a lot of businessmen in the Ogden area. The camp is a haven for any outdoorsman. Birds of many varities, squirrels, grouse, deer, coyotes, etc. are seen in their natural habitat. The surrounding hills are covered with fossils of the distant past. Boys can go fishing, hunting (with a camera), hiking, swimming, boating, and tubing, sledding and snowshoeing in the winter. They have an archery range, and target range for BB guns, and 22s, and there is much, much more. Camp Kiesel is a fun place for boys, and very popular with Scouts of all ages. It makes giving a cash donation to the Boy Scouts more meaningful. All-Are- 4-- KSL-Prov- All-Are- A post-seaso- two-mont- both in categories.
