OVU In answer to a number of inquiries about Johnny Paycheck, (alias Donnie Young and Donald Lytle) our research offers the following information on a hard-luc- k guy who seemed destined to remain a front-ma- n for the big stars in country music. Johnny has had several name changes and as many images. For a time it seemed that Paycheck had cashed in his chips as far as the entertainment world was concerned. He dropped out of sight and most people throught that Johnny was out of the race for good. Johnny was his only enemy. Friends who still believed in the talents of this renegade warrior still played and sang the hit tunes that Johnny had made famous. Billy Sherrill, producer for Columbia-Epi- c gave Johnny his present name and a new chance at being somebody. Paychecks collaboration with the King of producers, Sherrill, began in 1971 with Shes All I've Got. Then came the hit that Johnny had hoped for, the current blockbuster, Take This Job and Shove It. Written by David Alan Coe and produced by Billy Sherrill, according to airplay, Johnny Paycheck is back in business! We thank Toni and Nora for their letter of interest. A current list of publishers and record companies can be found in the March issue of Texas Proud. Write Editor: Grace Mikel, Rt 3, Box 100, Brazoria, Texas 77422.
