A special Victory Program for everbody will begin at 8 p. ni. in the Third ward chapel. This meeting will be a Full House affair it is a victory program and also a Welcome Home AUGUST 9, 1946 Next Week Planned To Be Abandoned This newspaper is sponsoring a subscription drive to begin August 15 and which will offer as prizes a trip to Yellowstone Park by train to the Park and by bus within the park with meals and hotel lodging paid. If the contestants would rather have a set of 1847 Rogers Brothers silverware they may do so. The fine thing about this contest Is that it isnt a contest at all in the strict sense of the word. Anyone who sells enough subscriptions may get the prize. We will also pay cash instead of prizes if the contestants desire. The contest is limited to women from. 17 to 30, and is limited to three women in Hyrum, three in Smithfield, two in Wellsville and one in Paradise. These women will be selected from applicants who apply by letter to us at either Hyrum or Smithfield. The field is being limited because we are anxious to get women who are active and who intend to work, because it will take some work to get either prize. We are also limiting the number of contestants so that those who are selling will have a sufficiently large field to work. If any contestant does not sell enough to win the trip or silverware we will pay her one fourth of her sales in cash. The schedule of required sales and other rules of the contest will be found on page three. It should be noted that renewals or extensions of present subscriptions count toward the prize. Any woman interested will be wise to apply at once by letter to either the Courier or the News at Hyrum or Smithfield, because The application of the State Road Commission to abandon the existing overpass crossing of the Utah Idaho 'Central Railroad lias been granted by the Utah Public Service Commission. Actual work may begin this fall. Action was taken on this road by the State Road Commission after a delegation of the County PTA, with Mrs. Gladys E. Jensen of Hyrum, president of the Cache County Council of PTA, as chairman met with the road commissioners and requested correction of the one lane bridge. File condition of the higway at this point became a child welfare problem following several school bus accidents on the bridge and curved approaches to it. Six large school buses travel the road daily. Parents of the chidren traveling the highway petitioned the help of the PTA Council. A public hearing on the proposed road change was held i the Cache County Cotirthou.se on July 16 before a large group of Cache County citizens. It was pointed out by the Engineer that it would be impossible to build or revise the bridge in its existing location, which is on a curve and between curves and inclined approaches. The bridge was built in 1916 to accommodate traffic conditions then. The Public Service Commission has decreed that the hazard to the travelling public using tlie existing overhead crossing because of the narow structure, should be eliminated in the interest of the public safety and should be abandoned in view of improved alignment proposed by the State Road Commission engineers. The crossing must be protected by train ac- tuated electric signals, and said Commission shall maintain jurisdiction in this matter, and recommends to the State Road Commission that when funds and materials are available, grade, separation should be made at the crossing, on the new road. The new road will be graded from the Paradise-Hyrujunction, leveling out the road ami the steep incline of the hill, and Feb. 28, 1946.
