Show UTAH LABOR NEWS Saturday, Mar . 24, 1917 Page Eleven An Appeal la Organized Labor m The Salt Lake Labor Temple association takes this means to your attention the fact that $1800 per annum of your hard earned dollars are being paid to the bank for interest on the Labor Temple's $30,000 indebtedness and $10,000 have thus been paid during the past five years. The union men of this city should have received this money instead of tlio bank, and to make it possible in the future to have at least a part of this interest paid to organized labor, the Labor Temple association appeals to all labor organizations, as well as individual members thereof, to loan money to this association, taking its note therefor, in amounts of $100 or over at 5 per cent interest, or 1 per cent more than is paid by the savings bank, and payable semiannual. The proceeds of such loans to be turned over to our present creditors and in this way divert a part of the interest' from outsiders to ourselves. of-callin- g The Labor Temple stock is also an attractive investment, especially - while it can be had at the present prjceof $1.00 per hnro; and it rmf remain long at this figure. The last stockholders' meeting took action authorizing the board of directors to take the necessary steps advancing the price to $1.25, which will give all who pay for stock without delay advantage of the increase. This proposition should particularly appeal to individual members who could invest $5.00 or more and thus become part owners in this magnificent property which will stand as a monument to ) organized labor in this city. While there is no danger of losing the property, and the association always expects to pay interest on money owing, or dividends on the stock when the debt is paid, yet it is preferred to pay interest to unions and union men instead of the bank, where, as above stated, $10,000 have already been paid. would be a good time to withdraw funds now in savings account, as the accrued interest will be paid br the bank at that time, and by turning it over to this association between the first and tenth of April, a note would be given by this association bearing 5 per cent, payable April 1, semiannually. Hoping all union men will put their shoulder to the wheel and boost for the proposition outlined herein, I have the honor to remain, Yours for Unionism and Labor Temple G. P. VICK, Secretary and Treasurer. |
