CO-OPERATI- ASSOCIATION Farmers Montana have been compelled organize for their own protection against the encroachment of combinations of wealth just as the industrial workers were compelled to do, but they seem to have gone about it in a manner that will be productive of greater and more lasting results than have the employees of corpora' of to tions. From the data at hand Jt appears that many farmers have been in the same class as are at present many members of the labor union, expecting to get something for nothing through the efforts of those with whom they slave them as the industrial workers already are enslaved. These farmers have a publication to which they contribute 51 each per year, and as a result have a newspaper that keeps them informed and is not afraid to speak right out In meeting on questions affecting the farmers. If the farmers can see the advantages of a publicity medium In such a short time, what must we think of the judgment and foresight of the members of organized labor who yet fall to appreciate the fact that be- cause the wealth owners have controlled the press of the country is the main cause of the unfavorable opinion of the general public as regards the labor union. Only since the labor press became a medium of publicity to be reckoned with has the kept press made any pretence of treating the workers fairly in the dissemination of news regarding industrial conflicts. There is great opportunity in combinations between the farmers and other workers, but all should remember that money, energy and co-ope- STATE STREET SALT LAKE Week beginning Sunday night, Feb. 11, 1917 The. ensational Play by Augustus Thomas, in which John Mason scored one of his greatest successes. NEXT WEEK AT THE WILKES THEATRE There can be little question but that "The Witching Hour, written by Augustus Thomas,' one of the foremost playwrights the world of drama has ever known, has proven the most sensational success of any play of its kind, John Mason, an actor of splendid ability, originated the leading role in "The Witching Hour," and his interpretation of the part probably brought Mason as much fame as anything else he ever played. The story of 'The Witching Hour deals with the weakness of a young southerner who has always been led to believe until he has convinced himself -that the sight of a certain stone caused him to lose complete mastery of himself, making him Irresponsible for his actions immediately thereafter. The dramatic sequence of events that transpire throughout the action of The Witching Hour centers around this thought, and Augustus Thomas in writing the drama introduces a tremendously strong character as the opposite of the lad who nourishes the Idea that he cannot look upon this certain Jewel without dire consequences ensuing. Many of the scenes of "The Witching Hour are thrillingiy sensational and there is a gripping realism to the story that has served to make it one of the most remarkable of American dramas. The Wilkes players have, been admirably cast for the various roles of the play and the drama lias been selected as one of the leading dramatic features of the entire season at the Wilkes. Opening next Sunday night the play runs through the ensuing week, with matinees on Thursday and Saturday afternoons. WEEK.
