the class that make a community prosperous A special to the news from pleasant grove was received today announcing noun cing the death at that place this morning of M P poulson the man who was injured about ten days ago while engaged in a quarrel with his son father and son had trouble over money matters and during the progress of the quarrel the former ormer struck the latter with a shovel the young man took the implement from his father and used it violently upon him striking him over the head and inflicting serious wounds upon him the old mans life was despaired of and the son was arrested ax and held in 2000 bonds he expressed himself as being very sorry for his grave offense and up to this afternoon had not been rearrested arrested re the sympathy of the community is said to be with the dead man and his family richard H cabell convicted by a jury in the federal court last wednesday of the crime of embezzling the sum of while deputy internal revenue collector for the district of montana in the state of utah was this morning sentenced by judge marshall to bo four years in the state prison the defendant when requested by the court to stand up was visibly affected though he strove hard to conceal it he was asked by judge marshall if he had anything to say before e judgment was pronounced and in an almost inaudible tone of voice he replied 1 I have nothing the me case was called before judge marshall at 9 this morning when attorney varian arose and moved the court for an arrest in judgment on the ground that the indictment was insufficient in law and could not possibly sustain a judgment district attorney judd replying to mr varian said the indictment was good under section of the revised statutes of the united states but even f if it were not tt it was good under the act of congress of feb 3 1879 which reads as follows any officer connected with or employed in the internal revenue service of the united states and any assistant of such ofal officer who shall embezzle or br wrongfully convert conAr ert to his own use any money or property of the united states shall be punished by a fine equal to the value of the money embezzled or by imprisonment alone and not very familiar with the conditions at places the mud it very deep and the water exceedingly hot callahan it appears became venturesome and got out to a point where he was unable to assist himself and became fast in the mud there he remained until yesterday when hie hia lifeless body was extricated by a rescuing party in the meantime bib flesh had been literally cooked and fell away from his bones in pieces an inquest was held before justice mouse ley and a verdict of drowning returned tho the deceased was 26 years of age a native of iowa an electrician by profession and was formerly employed by the big cottonwood power powei company the end of a long and painful period of illness caused by brights disease came at 5 yesterday atter afternoon noon to mrs mary elizabeth penton fenton young wife of apostle brigham young the ladys demise was not unexpected on the contrary her family and friends have been preparing for the sad event for a considerable time past the trouble which resulted in mrs youngs death developed years ago every possible precaution to pre prevent ent fits ravages and almost every kev known own remedy was tried in hopes of effecting a cure but all in vain latterly her husband and children realizing the inevitable directed their efforts principally in the way of relief about three weeks ago mrs young returned home from california after a sojourn there of several months in search of health since that time her decline was rapid the deceased was born bom in new jersey and was in the years of her age since 1867 utah has been her home she was well and widely known as a woman of liberal ideas and generous traits of character her friends were very numerous and with her family will sincerely mourn her demise she leaves a husband and three last night and went up stairs selected clothing jewelry etc and took about six dollars in cash from the till night watchman elliott saw a light up stairs nou notified policeman tucker who captured danielson as he was making his exit from the window with the stolen goods he was taken before justice booth this morning and waived examination on a charge of burglary danielson was committed to await of C chester h fester had two fingers of his left hand cut oft off tuesday by his older brother the two boys were playing near a post poat and the younger boy turned toward the post poet and placed his hand on the top of it as the brother struck the post a heavy blow with a hatchet one finger was severed completely from the hand hamd the other being attached only by a piece of skin the child was sudden and entirely unexpected apoplexy was t the he cause the respected veteran was in the seventieth year of his age and in his usual health when the important summons came he had been up town during the forenoon and had returned home for lunch and was sitting at the dinner table with the twenty ninth volume of his personal memoirs before him and was simultaneously sd scanning anning its pages and chatting with his wife and son caleb suddenly he stopped eating his head fell slowly forward and rested upon his breast he appeared simply to have gone to sleep this proved to be true but the sleep was the sleep of death As quickly as possible he was carried to a lounge and laid upon it while drs richards and wilcox were summoned they responded promptly but on their arrival immediately announced that they could do nothing as he was already dead he leaves leavea a wife and ana seven children he was an eions intelligent and useful life he had few if any enemies and very many man friends all of whom will regret to learn of his death peaceful and easy though it was george G bywater was born at Bedwell ty parish Monmouth shire wales november 1828 he joined the church of jesus christ of latter day saints in his native land and came to utah in 1864 first settling in the sixth ward this city soon boon atter after his hie arrival he went into the business with offenbach who was the first watchmaker in utah he was waa the second conductor of the utah central and a locomotive engineer on the utah southern on which he had two narrow escapes esca pea from death one on account of the breaking of a driving rod on his engine and the other by the rolling over of an engine in the sixth ward in which accident his bin brakeman was killed he was wae also master mechanic on the utah central for several yeav year he removed from salt lake to provo in 1859 or 1860 and resided there for several years during which time he served two or three terms in the city council at that
